Any advice for freeing up a slightly stiff, mildly rusty Mercator? Got neglected for a few days on a recent trip & developed a little rust. I’ve cleaned the blade up nicely, but it’s just a bit stiff folding open & closed, & can’t take them apart to clean the little bit of rust out from inside the hinge area.

soak in diesel/wd40...put blade in vice GENTLY and work handle back n forward over n over again....rust will go away....done it a few times over the years with old ones that were seized completely.

well I LIKE svord knives.....own two, both folders of the peasant style.... dressed deer with both..the big one definately easier than the mini, which I did a sheep with just cause I could..... keep blade lightly oiled .... mine stay sharp....
some pour hate on the later grinds/finish....I think to self, tis a work horse not a show pony....

They take a nice edge, but don't hold it for long as are tempered fairly soft. Work well with a traditional steel to touch up as you go.

The b&t are 15n20 which is a decent simple steel, similar to 1075, but a bit tougher due to the nickel in the alloy. Pretty corrosion prone would be the biggest downside.

Thanks @Micky Duck will give that a go tonight. Really love the Mercators. Bloody good work horse and they’re practically indestructible.

I’ve abused my ones for years and other than a little patina they’re basically as good as they were when new. I know a couple guys who’ve had the same one for 40+ years and showing no sign of slowing down. The genuine ones are still made in Germany I believe.

I left one behind at a bbq in Dunedin last year and never saw it again- maybe you’ll get lucky and stumble across it
