I've also got one. Not quite as wide and bought in the late 70s.

Used only to hold emergency essentials, such as space blanket, pull through, fire lighting stuff, electrical tape, little compass, hex keys for scope and guard screws, simple single bladed Victorinox folder and whatever else I have forgotten.

Mine was always dropped, full, into my day pack so is as new,

I wish I had one of the original orange ones had NZFS stamped on them - funny story- The Field Officer walked into Te Waiotekaipiti hut while two of us were on a 3 month stretch in there asked him if he had a new pouch with him he did handed it over and I threw my old buggered one into the fire having cup of tea and bloody loud bang - my pouch still had a live 308 in it gave us all a bloody good fright

@Barry the hunter, Is that why they lined the fireplace with sheet steel ? ...And I arrived from White's Clearing to find you'd forgotten to finish the vodka, but I passed on the Double Brown thanks all the same.

yeah I loved that hut - not sure if it survived the Tuhoe blitz or not I hope so- no booze when I was there we were not allowed booze on the job- shot a 80 lb little boar right on heli pad one morning - has resident blueys out side most days used to let us know if anyone coming - but very few visitors really - was good hunting - shot 38 deer for month of april one stint in there - all little shit heads in there but the odd big pig - we had one dog Fred my hunting mate got a lot of piggys just with him

those sol emergency biv bags are wicked small aye- ive had one maybe 20 years- i should prolly open it out see if its still ok

I've used it a couple times with a light sleeping bag inside, they're brilliant and pretty durable.
I also have one of their survival blanket/ponchos in another kit, never used it but love the concept

@Deanohit How do find that Maxpedition bag sits on your back ? It seems to be designed so that the weight and bulk is below belt level, and not in the lumbar area, which is the opposite to how most manufacturers do it. Does it hang down on your bum ?

And re survival blankets - definitely pays to look at them occasionally. I pulled a foil/plastic/whatever one out of my emergency kit after about 20 years, and although still useable, it was not in good shape.

I'll try and remember to get a couple pics wearing it.
It does sit lower on the hips but because it's kept reasonably light, it sits well and the 50mm belt with quick adjusters is quite comfortable

I see the Swazi Buffalo bag has been mentioned a few times , just got one myself and really like it , quiet , seems well made , light which is important to me cause i often strap it on to my larger pack on overnight trips . Plenty big enough for my purposes .
