sleeping bag
the zip on my sleeping bag has lost or broken the little piece that holds the zip ends together where the slider starts from, does this mean a new zip or can it be repaired?
the bag is a kathmandu anikiwa and was $300 odd when I bought it 7 years ago.
any advice most welcome
thanks

Try your local dry cleaners they might be able to do it. They do it down here in Oamaru

You can't replace those bits on a zip. You need to look at getting the whole zip replaced.
Last time I looked at getting the zip replaced on a cactus jacket it was $50, so if imagine it'd be $100-150 to do a sleeping bag.
If you've had the bag 7 years and used it lots it probably needs a wash too to revive the down.
I've heard a rumor that Kathmandu is having a sale, you might be better off buying a new bag cheap.

If you feel you got the value out of it, see about a new one and throw the old one in the boot of the vehicle as an emergency "quilt". You will almost end up spending enough having it serviced and the zip replaced to pay for a new one

If you are referring to the little molded plastic stoppers on either side of the zip, that fit in to the zip head, then no they cant be replaced. Zip heads can be replaced easy as, but not those bits. When it happens on my bags, I close the zipper right up, and then carefully move it back 2 or 3 cm. Then put a blob of hot melt glue to hold the two ends together, inside and out. If its at the top end of the zip by your head, then a blob of glue on each side will stop the zip head coming off. Or use a domestic sewing machine and sew a piece of tape over both end so the zip head wont come off

Had to repair a zip on my Argali tent. Took a bit of Youtube and time, but got there. Twin Needle will be my go to next time. They are the business.

thanks everyone for the replies, husky you are correct about the moulded stoppers as that is the missing bit, so a new bag for me and some sewing or glue on the zip short of the end of the zip.
cheers

You can crimp a metal stopper onto the end of the zip but if it is at the start of the zip, then its buggered and you would need a new a zip. Not worth it for a $300 bag. Macpac do sleeping bag repairs on any of their branded bags, including the old fairydown bags. Could be worth while looking into them.
