Thread: Sleeping Bag

Hey Fellas , looking at purchasing a new sleeping bag before the roar comes around and im not to experienced with what's hot and what's not!
looking for something that takes up bugger all room in my pack and well as being reasonably lightweight and with a price that is going to piss the wife off to much
seeing as I have left it so late I wont be able to buy one offline and besides would rather support our local economy where possible.
I don't do any armed tramping in the alpine regions (yet) so that isn't a important factor but I do like to be warm when it does turn cold in the hills.

Have been looking at the new Domex Halo or the exped 700? but with the exped I see its a real slim fit and I tend to toss and turn quite a bit.

Domex halo and the other are around the $600-$700 so yea around that , im not a real tight ass but I do appreciate bang for buck.

but if there is something out there for cheaper that someone has stumbled across then I would be all for that

I picked up a Macpac 500 XP off here a few weeks ago. Nice and warm, very affordable (especially 2nd hand) and packs down to a manageable size and weight. I'm a big hitter and a restless sleeper and there is plenty of room in the XL size for me to sleep comfortably.

I just got the halo.Used it over the weekend,good weight at 1kg,heaps of room in it,can’t stand snug fit mummy bags.
Was toasty warm,probably use my old bag in the summer as this will be an overkill.Looking forward to spending most of April in it.

Yet to try it - but I only a little runt (I did say runt) so do get the odd perk been vertically challenged

It did not have a compression bag - so I got a couple coming via EBay - $15 each - ones with the harness to fully compress

Can you borrow one and then invest in the likes of a mont bell etc later?

Check out sea to summit Trek III, have one for me and a Trek II for the mrs. Very light and not a bad price if you get them on special. Found Bivouac to be a good suplier. We run a liner as well and then you are pretty toasty in all but the silly temps.

Got a stoney Creek Black Stag 750 and really rate it.

Thanks for all the advice fellas , went into Macpac today and picked up one of the 500xp bags for $360incl and bought a decent liner to go with it.
I'm happy and the wifey is even happier..............for now

That's a good price too I think I paid around 600 for mine a few years ago

I picked one up at the end of '16 when they had 50% off. Got a 1 man tent too on the same deal.
