    Sleeping bag advice

    Hi,
I’m looking for a new sleeping bag as I’m currently using a 2+kg mountain equipment synthetic that packs down to the size of most day packs and means a overnighter can involve an 80L pack!
Looking for down, preferably Nikwax treated or similar, that is small and light when packed. Not a big fan of tighter mummy bags as am a side sleeper and prefer more room in the bag. (I know that won’t help with the small and light thing!)
Temperature wise maybe around 0 to -5? Hoping to use year round with maybe a thermolite liner in winter.
Have been looking at the Nemo Riff 30, or maybe the Domex Halo or superlight?

Have tried to search for previous similar posts but without much luck. Any advice / experience appreciated!!
    Thanks.

Domex halo for sure will see you out, unsure if the domex superlight and a liner may be enough? Personally I'd just go for the halo not that much difference in size or weight and I'd rather the extra warmth.

I have a Superlight I wouldn't call it a year round bag but works well for me in the north Island I would want something a bit warmer for flycamping in winter.
I got XL which has heaps of room I'm 6.4" and 100kg

    Better off ordering overseas.

I personally use Enlightened Equipment who make quilts etc. Made in USA. Great high quality brand, works out to be cheaper than a Stoney Creek Black Stag

Or support the NZ economy with domex, but whatever.

Have really liked my exped, not sure which model. Have woken up to 2" of snow on the ground outside the tent and not needed it zipped up. I do have an insulated mat which helps.

Anyone tried wear on earth sleeping bags? Have their down jacket and live in it over winter, yet to see or hear about their bags

Exped as per link similar specs to domex halo but 200g heavier, not much in the price either both bags would be pretty bloody good

Please note both bags are the extra tall version so comparing apples with apples

Yeah nah. I support the economy with a variety of different 'NZ' made products. Just not with sleeping bags.

I quite like supporting companies that don't mass produce their product in China. Dunno where Domex are made but I doubt it's in NZ. ( I could be wrong )

I think Blair custom makes them for mountaineers doing everest n that. Dunno if they're a backpacking suitable bag, I haven't asked him

Thanks very much for all the advice, the Halo looks like a good bet to me.
I still like the shape of the Nemo riff but I do like supporting NZ companies where I can and a lack of an NZ based distributor for warranty issues etc does put me off a bit.

I went into macpac store and they has a 40% off sale....bought a really good really large bag that is really warm....guess you can say Im really pleased LOL. couple of hundy bucks and with the compression sack that comes with it the size can be taken waaaay down to not much more than tissue box size... whatever you buy do yourself a favour and buy a liner...the cheap ones from warehouse is fine.

For sleeping bags look at what loft down they use. For best performance to weight ratio go for 800 loft down. I reckon my 400gr 800 loft bag is as warm as my 700gr 650 loft bag. The 400g is a lot smaller and lighter in the pack.
