    Sleeping Bag Q's

Hi all, been a while. Been busy .

The last piece of light/ultralight gear I need is a good sleeping bag. Been making do with a typical synthetic that's not even that good at 10 degrees fully clothed.

Requirements - large(ish) and long. I'm 6ft 2 and like my room. Not exactly a sprawling sleeper but I've never tried a tight fitting mummy bag so I don't know how I'd go.

Mummy suggestions are ok as long as there's some leg room and your feet don't have to be ridiculously close together.

Would like something comfortable down to freezing. Will a zero degree bag be ok in -5 if you wear clothes? I'm a warm sleeper and have an Exped downmat and a Tarptent.

As light and compressible as possible. Willing to sacrifice a bit here obviously, due to not wanting a super tight fit.

So, what are people's suggestions? Any other guys out there around my size that have found a nice light 3/4 season bag that is comfy?

I use something similar to this for a three season bag. This one being XL may be a better fit for you, though you may want something with a water shedding outer shell.

Mont Bell Down Hugger 650 #3 Long.
Down filled. Light 960g. Stretchy for living people (not corpses) who actually feel the need to move on the odd occasion in the night.

Have a look at the down quilt options as well. Seems to be very popular with the UL crowd.

I personally don't like down bags, they are incredibly warm but if you get them wet your screwed, and the type of rough camping I do its not worth having a down bag, Wiggys make exceptionally good gear and if your after synthetic then they are the business.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I prefer down, for a weight to warmth ratio it's hard to beat, but I use an inner bag, or liner (to keep the body oils away from the down), and a waterproof outer bag (which also keeps my therma rest from rolling away)' this also means that everything stays dry, even when sleeping in snow caves.
All of my gear is older MacPac stuff, not sure if now I would still go with them as they are not the brand they used to be.
Apparently there is a really good U.S. army system at the moment, you tube it and eBay it.

Im seriously thinking about getting a polar fleece blanket, folding it in half then sewing the bottom up and the bottom quarter of the side up to use in summer, I get far too hot in my down bag in summer.

I have one of these as my summer bag and the only gripe I have is the 3/4 zip. You can now get a full length zip as on option.

Yip, warm and moist. It's easy to open it up and cool down, than freeze all night when it turns to shite.
