sleeping mat replacement time - Whats good?

On my last trip down the river trip I used my sleeping mat for the first time in likely ten years, It like most things I sleep with it hadn't aged well

it done the whole blister look and go down during the night so I ended up throwing it on the fire

to say i'm out of touch with what is good is an understatement,

Id like something that packs small and light but is of reasonable build to handle use as some of the ones iv looked at look very very delicate

Id prefer not to spend a whole weeks wages on it and am happy to wait for it to come from overseas
something for pack walking in trips ect

what have you guys that know things bought lately, or otherwise whats good?

I'm actually pretty impressed with the Torpedo7 one I picked up a few months ago. Basically a rip-off of the fancy brands, pretty well made but for the price I won't be too upset if it dies after a few seasons. I think I must've got it in a sale, as I'm sure I only paid half the normal retail price. https://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/...e-sleeping-mat

Thermarest Neo-air xlite, yes it is expensive, but man what a mat. I can lie on my side and my hips and shoulders do not touch the ground. Packs down very small and is one of the lightest on the market. You won't regret buying one.

I have an Exped Downmat 7. Has insulation, which is important down here in winter. There are lighter options but I thought the more robust option would be better for me. Wait for a sale.

Whateveryou go with, are sure you use a bag to ploughed up rather than direct from your mouth. Had one that developed mould inside it while stored... Wasn't keen on breathing that

I've used a few thermarest's over the years and still reackon they're hard to beat. There's a few to choose from in the range now and while they're not cheap, you've gotta decide what value you put on a good nights sleep. They're worth a look at at the very least.

I have just bought a Thermarest Neolite and it's great. It weighs next to nothing and packs down very small, but it's not self inflating and you need to balance a bit when using as its more like an air mattress. I think I would have liked to try some of the others in their range, but probably still bought the Neolite
