solar charging

I've looking at getting portable gear to charge my ebike. But cost is that of another battery, so why would I bother? It's easier to take a spare, weighs similar and takes up about the same space. Would get me out of trouble if needed. Point is why is solar so expensive? can I get set up for less then a new battery?($900ish) I know from reading you need to match panels with smart boost controllers etc. But there is so much choice and little info on what goes together. So 48v with 19ah battery so around 920watts all up. Won't need a full charge per day(4hrs sun) but upto 50% would be good. Can anyone point me in the right direction at reasonable cost components that won't destroy my battery?

One thing I really appreciate about Daryl is his after sales service, he's not one to take your money and then go "sorry, who?" I've had a lot of support from him over the last couple of years whilst I've been fine tuning things at my end. He's the kind of bloke you look forward to yarning with.

Just bought a pallet of tier 1 solar panels: 16 kw. And they cost 45 cents a watt. So when you see 100 watt panels for $120 you know someone is taking the piss.

But to get a decent sized panel that can actually charge hungry equipment and stow away reasonably small you need a folding panel (blanket). Those semi flexible, fold up into a suitcase sort. 200 watts but weighs in at a hefty 10 kg.

300 to 500 bucks, depending on manufacturer.

Then a reputable charge controller. try Victron. Blue solar for under a hundy.

Wire up. Job done.

Victron gear is excellent, wouldn't use anything else, cry once :D

Will follow up on the suggestions.
