What's the best footwear for hunting the dunes and coastal bush and walking the beaches on my happy place, Stewart Island? I've used basketball type ankle boots in the past and they're ok but don't last long, just thought in this day and age maybe there's something better, easy to put on when wet, above the ankle to keep most of the sand out, lightweight, flexible and quiet...what do you guys wear down there?
I just use a 'normal' tramping boot have tried sneakers and find they are a bit cold after a few hours of wet feet. Yes the boots are a bit loud but I'm not a bush ninja and find that leaves go crunch no matter what I wear
American patrol boot with the Panama sole. Never any probs, three trips down Tin range,plus a push following the overland telephone line to Comarty.
Sarvo, here on the Forum, sells a lighter weight boot that is excellent for bush and dune work. About $180 from memory, very comfortable, lightweight, flexible so you can feel the sticks etc. really liking mine, and they dont take too much to dry out.
My usual hunting boots. There is nothing "special" about the island. It can be wet and muddy and sandy and rocky. Like a lot of other places.
Lowa Z8s? They would be the best bush stalking boot I’ve used; comfortable, light, quiet, but with good ankle support. Some people think they have poor grip but I’ve found them to be ok.

Just had a pair of sarvos out for an hour or so... they "work like a boot should" so far.... dry and comfy feet afterwards. No slips or issues of steep slippery banks, crown fern, tree roots etc (bit of hesitation to start with but no signs not too trust them)
And they sure didn't cost what a pair of "name branded" boots would from "other places" would be
