Thread: stuck zipper

just getting ready for trip to Coromandel stuck zipper on my day bag I use for reels heavy duty YK double ended but both tags jammed solid tried soaking in WD40 all day no budge seemed to be corroded inside - just tried boiling water and a powerfull spray gunk remover nah no movement any ideas ohh wise ones and yes have googled it but tapping the tags to induce movement does nothing

Go back to the good old sugar bag.

Find a very slim screwdriver or the like, something very slim and slip it in between the teeth and the top and eventually the bottom of the inside of the zipper pull. These are a pain in the bum, what has happened is the corrosion is holding hands with the teeth and the inside of the zipper pull and not allowing you to move it.

Slip the prodder in the gap just to loosen the corroded gunk and using the hot water, some sort of lube (I use silicone spray but I don't think the actual product matters) you just need to gently work the zipper pull each way until it gives up and starts moving. I use an old tooth brush to clean between the teeth...

You don't actually need to worry about saving the zipper pull, you just need to do the job without buggering up any of the teeth as you can get zipper pull repair kits and just replace the pull. More than likely the pull is buggered from the corrosion anyway... I've just had the same thing with my reel and softbait waist bag, saved half the zips and the others the pull just broke apart while I was trying to free it up. Missus saw me doing that and presented me with about three other bags needing the same treatment. Managed to save those. Seems like it's the fishing gear aspect that causes the corrosion to be so bad?

at least it wasnt the fly in your pants and the old fella was jammed tightly between the zipper teeth.....

thanks kicking myself as the zips on my jackets and sleeping bag I use candle wax or silicone spray this old bag got forgotten somehow

That's what I thought it was going to be about too. Did the same as a kid. Had to get my mum to help me out

Had a zipper stick in the tent during the roar. Lesson learned. Work slowly with zippers. Ended up repairing it at home.
