Was running late for an evening hunt so while rushing through a paddock on foot I hear a barking type sound, I look over to my right and see a hind and spiker staring at me.
I drop the spiker and realize I don't have my knife, I call the farmer who arrives with his mate, hands me a knife and I cut its throat and gut it out then they pick it up and throw it in the back of my truck for me.
Bloody good blokes
Left my suppressor behind on the last NZDA shoot, luckily POI doesn't change too much on my rifle.
Also forgot my cooker on our last family trip so cranked the potbelly stove and cooked on that.
Down South this year didn't arrive to our accommodation till 9pm left a 5:30am to get to the hanger early to sort gear out. 2 hours early heaps off time, until pilot fly's in and stays right fellas get your shit together we going now.
Only left one bag off food behind:D oh and left a pizza on the back off the ute 7 days latter opened the box still looked the same pizza but no body was keen to give it a go.
I spent an evening on the hillside spotting, finally gave up when it was dark and went to go back to the hut only to realise I'd left my headtorch at home and my phone in the hut. basically found my way back by braille
You should have included left magazine behind I would tick that box
Forgot coffee grinder on one drive in trip
Had 1kg roasted beans
Ground them through a shity cheap disposable pepper grinder
Painfully slow and coarse
It will never happen again
supressor for my 308.
Write a list and double check as you put everything into the truck.
Not done any of those things, but have gone fishing without fishing rods before! I'm always worried about leaving my suppressor behind re: point of aim and thread protection. Knife is another one. Don't need it until you shoot an animal, but then what!?
Had a mate forget his whole pack years ago!
4 hr drive from Wellington to the Ruahines, slept in van, sad camper next morning, drove home :-)
None of the stuff listed but equally annoying is when you forget bug repellent when huntng in sandfly infested river flats :psychotic:
Forgetting the head torch is a real bastard.
Not the knive.....the Warthog sharpening system.....twice!
Left a loaded mag in truck and went hunting with just a single round, didn't see anything that day
Often forget the hill stick, only because I'm not in the habit of taking one. Must admit that they're handy in the winter when things get a bit greasy
One word for older members, checklists!
My headlamp on saturday night just been. Fun coming down a shitty creek after dark a couple of hours from the car with a load on using the cellphone which was rapidly running out of juice.
Have left my cutlery behind on a few trips and have just had to make do cooking with a knife and eating with my hands.
Once went to go for a spearfish, mate picked me up & we were about 3/4 of the way to our spot when I realised I’d left my mask at home. Had to drive 30mins back home to get it & then go back out again. Usually all my gear is kept in a tub together ready to grab and go, but the week before this I’d been diving in Vanuatu and missed my mask in front pocket of suitcase when unpacking.
Also once went away on a three day spearfishing trip and my gun rubber snapped 5mins into the first day. Luckily a mate that arrived the next morning had a spare for me. Since then I always carry a replacement in my gear bag.
Bolt and mag. Just last week it was.
I do feel a bit spethal on this occasion.
I did see a deer tho.:P
i have forgotten a tent and sleeping bag/air mat as the guy i was hunting with said he would bring camping gear. I failed to clarify if it was his or for both of us. spooning in a one man tent is not comfortable and funnily enough we never went for another hunt.
Since then i too have a checklist
Loaded up the magazine (243 woodsmaster) at home before an armed walk just out of home as a teenager.
Thought I'd put it in the pouch on the belt but must've got distracted.
5 minutes drive and about a 10 minute walk and went to load up the rifle and yeah nah.
Somewhere along the line id got distracted and hadnt put the mag in. I had a couple of loose rounds in there hut it was a single shot for the quick hunt.
It was a bit wet and if I'd gone home I wouldnt have come back
Left the binos at the hut one morning eh @craigc
Change of socks when I knew be away for few days and was crossing Table Mt, back of karonga valley, Thames. Which is a swampy bog on top.
My foot odours when I peeled them off after 3 days was described as "legendary".
Forgot my child once, actually they made a movie about it [emoji1787]

Mate of mine left one of his 3 kids at a Tūrangi petrol station
The other 2 asked where the 3rd was about 1/4 way to Taupo :)
He had to turn around, go back, kid was crying with petrol station manager……….
Flew in once and found I had left the trigger lock on the rifle.
My good mate is only allowed to hunt once a year, on our last trip he left his bolt. Bloke was borderline about to cry. Poor fella
" You're beginning to sound like my ex wife"
"I didn't know you had an ex wife?"
.....
