ok.....Im a died in the wool ashley laceup gummy man...have been for ten years now after suffering for years with sore feet, burning soles, and generally not happy legs....went to ashleys and mate they are like putting on an old pair of slippers...AWESOME for bush stalking....however,not quite so flash for a tops trip in hot summer conditions and maybe not so flash when doing SAR type things with a pack on...so I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Sarvos lightweight models.....so far Ive done about 10 days hunting in them...they have been covered in blood at least 3 times so cant be noisy....the soles remind me of the OLD SCHOOL john bull combat boots in that they are softish and flexi...perfect for in the bush and they do grip rocks rather well....most modern boots have a stiff hard sole and they give me the screaming shits.....might be the ducks nuts for sidling in scree all day but in the bush more time arsing up than walking. @RUMPY is the only fella I know who can wear them semi quietly and not fall over...but thats cause he a bush hobbit who sneaks along in ninga mode all day.

I enjoy wearing my Sarvos...they are as light as my gummies, dont get so hot and my ankles have a heap more support.

I use the Grisport Kaikoura's... most comfortable boots I've ever worn straight out of the box. I like the higher ankle support when walking around the tussok tops and the prices are good too.

Yep I have two pair of his, a summer and winter. I find the winter a more comfortable fit. Very pleasantly surprised with the quality and feel. I have worn the summer pair for about 7 hunts (including river crossings) and did an 80km tramp in them and they still look pretty much new. Lightweight and excellent grip. Especially for the price!

Yup..First tried the Hikers. found them to be good and used them till the soles wore out. then i tried the Mohaka's. Got a few years out of them with no issues.

Have you had a look at these? I can't find anything bad to say about them. I do however do mainly south island alpine. Very good price a moment.

So for 400 l ended up with a pair of vasque Eriksson. Full leather, good rubber rand, goretex lined. Already done of tops trip in the kawekas and performed well. Will see how well they last
