Summer weight, breathable, cool, hunting clothes recommendations?

Looking for recommendations on breathable, light weight hunting clothes. More specifically pants as lightweight baselayer long sleeve shirts are readily available.

Ridgeline and Stoneycreek seem to have stopped their Sable Airflow and Airmesh ranges respectively. Guessing there might be some Aussie brands that specialise in cooler hunting clothes?

Sick of wearing shorts and getting my legs torn to bits, also my glowing white legs are probably about the worst bush camouflage that exist.

Bought the hunters element eclipse hood about 2 months ago and cant rate it enough. Keeps you covered up against the sun but lightweight enough to walk all day in in hot conditions.
Had a tough time parting with 90 bucks for it at the time but i wouldn't go with anything else now for summer hunting.

That's good to know. I've been looking around for a suitable breathable synthetic long sleeve hoody for a while now. I got stuck out on the tops last year in the sun all day with no shade. I didn't have an all-in-one lightweight top with sleeves, collar and/or a hood. To keep the sun off I ended up wearing a long sleeved fleece with collar, buff, and a hat to keep the sun off as I tend to burn quickly. Sweated buckets. Not ideal. I've now got a "cool dry" long sleeve "active wear" top but still need to wear a Buff and hat for neck and face when it's glowing hot. I've noticed most of the hunting brands now have some form of long sleeved hoody, but pricing is mostly nuts for what it is. (Ryan's previously coined it the "camo tax".) I'm not too keen on camo, or the "camo tax". A basic long sleeved polyester hoody would be great, with a half zip would be awesome. I've been looking at running/fishing/casual wear brands but haven't found the ideal combination of features/colour/price yet.

I've gone from wearing shorts and leggings to pant in the last couple of years. I really liked the hunters element Spur pants (basic green type not the camo stuff), and they were light enough and had side air vents on the thighs for summer hunting.

They are comfortable to wear, but unfortunately quality has been an ongoing issue with them. The first pair had the stitching disintegrate in multiple places and to their credit I was sent a replacement pair. That replacement pair has not been worn much at all, but the stitching is breaking up again. I contacted hunters element about the issue and eventually got a response that no warranty replacement would be provided as it was originally a replacement item. Going to have to bust out the sewing machine and the Form 1,2 and 3 sewing classes from my memory banks and fix them up to get a bit more wear out of them.

I think its a bit of a mixed bag. I have there top jacket and a halo jacket and can't fault them. Got a pair of light shorts, wore them once and never again.

Just got there bino holder as it's the only one smaller enough for 32mm, $80 and looks good but havnt tested yet.

its a shame addidas stopped making the trackpants we used to have 40 years ago...they lasted for years and took one hell of a beating without ripping. they dried out in next to no time too....

i have a couple of sets of these. super lightweght, very quick drying, and look tidy enough when you're out and about. not super tough, but for that price they don't have to be

I went through a few trousers from stoney creek and got sick of their thread & QC which in my eyes let them down.

I then bought a pair of Sitka Ascent pants, a bit pricey but you pay for quality.

Lightweight, perfect for hot summer days as you can roll them up if need be, fantastically designed, the fabric also stretches on movement.

Another pant I use is the Kuiu Attack which I use for cooler months and swear by them for comfort, warmth, toughness and if it gets even colder then I just put on a thermal underneath

Yeah the Ole addidas track pants were very common hunting attire back in the day

I was given a pair of those “bear Grylls” branded pants a few years ago. They are actually really awesome. Nice and light and breathable, but water doesn’t really penetrate either. When they do get wet they dry really quickly.

I got the stoney creek fast hunt pants for that exact reason. Legs getting torn up walking overgrown tracks.

They are really light and comfy just don’t expect them to last. If you treat them as expendable then they might be a good option.

I’m back to using stubbies now unless I need the sun protection for summer trips on the tops.

I just wear black cotton rugby shorts.

I have had a great run with a few different Montane pants

I reckon that for most hunting (maybe not multiple nights in tahr country etc) just look at what the local backcountry cockies are wearing. They're in those conditions every day. I mostly hunt lowland bush so am pretty much garbed in typical farming clothes

Kuiu Tiburon is good. The long sleeve shirt and pants with a boonie hat are my go-to gear for summer

I’m a bit late this the party here but thought it worth throwing in my 2c.

I have been using the stoney creek fast hunt pants for the last two years and am really impressed. I am hard on my gear and these have held up really well to snags, bush lawyer etc. in the kaimais, pureoras and kaimanawas. They are a light rip stop fabric with vents in each leg, they breathe well. They are not water resistant but do dry quick. I’ll be replacing them with the same if I ever manage to wear them out.

Anything that needs a belt is a problem for me as the buckle sits right under the hipbelt of my packs, I much prefer something with a drawstring but so much harder to find. Pants don't stay up without help for people my size.

Any updates on this thread,looking for long sleeve ,not too hot,prefer a hood as well, lightweight top for bush hunting in summer.

As a certified pasty, white, ginger who has a minor disagreement with the sun about its intensity and, lets be honest, existence.

Have some kuiu pants I got from thie forum but like to try on for size hencedont like buying online from overseas otherwise I would probably grab a kuiu one.

Yeah, for tops trips I've gone to the Hunters Element Eclipse Hoody. Lightweight, full sleeve, synthetic that is relatively breatheable. Many hunting and mountaineering brands so these now, Simms do a really lightweight version. Sun protection is great. Does stink after a few trips, so need to wash and air out. Am tempted to go for the same type of fabric for long trousers for sun protection. For the bush, looking forward to rocking the black singlet and stubbies.

I've got one of these for hunting and another Desolve one that is the same but different colours for out in the kayak. Would get another one when these are worn out.

Rugby tops and stubbies

Macpac and Kathmandu both do lightweight, long sleeve hoodies in breathble, UV proof fabrics. Both $70ish on special at the mo, so not much cheaper than the camo tax versions.

My kids have them for summer fishing missions and they seem to work well. Might have to get one for hunting.

Until you have worn linen..cotton/linen in the heat you have no idea just how comfortable it can be. It wears very well also...linen is tough. How do I know all this...I grew up in aussie, hunted my whole life & tried every sort of clothing on the market. In 2000 I started Blackfoot Designs...I wanted to give AUSSIE hunters a true warm weather hunting clothing & accessory line. I trialed all the super moisture wicking...mesh synthetics from around the world ...in the field...not in a lab ... & good old natural fibres left them all for dead in the comfort field.
