Thread size for Suppresor ?

Hi guys, I just got a couple of DPT .35cal suppressor's, one for my coming .350 Legend & one for my 9.3X62, both these are 1/2-28, one MK 1 & one MKII

I found I could screw all the .35 & one S/S .375 baffles on my 14/1 from my 30/06, giving me two over barrels, as one was a Can !

My question is I have been told not to thread Sako - Tikka's with a 1/2-28 or 1/2-20 as it could be a problem (I was buying a .30 DPT Magnum rated S/S baffled over barrel with the 1/2-20 thread at a bargain price, when the guy at the shop selling it told me this ?)

So is it a plan to thread the 9.3X62 for the Frankenstein .35 cal over barrel supp, rather than the 1/2-28 ?

If not a problem ill race back & buy the Magnum DPT lol !

Best to ask the guys at DPT.
They recommended threading my finnlight 14-1 after measuring it, I don't know how this compares to other Sako/Tikka barrels.

It depends on your barrel thickness. In general you want the largest thread you can get. I have seen accuracy drop because someone has put a 1/2inch thread on a barrel that should really be M14. The threaded end “flares” out. The only way to fix it is cut the barrel before the flare.

This isn’t the same case for the factory threaded barrels like the Howa’s.

I had this happen with a Rem700 SPS .243
Had it threaded to 1/2 as I bought a second hand suppressor in his thread. Accuracy went out the window as the muzzle had flared out only ever so slightly. Had the thread cut off and threaded 14x1 and a new Waitaki suppressor fitted and it's back to sub MOA.

Just checking, but 9.3 is .366 calibre so I think it could be a tight fit if you use .35 baffles on the 9.3 I could be reading your post incorrectly but thought I would just check?

my 358 win got a 14x1 thread on a 20" no3 sporter barrel. We did talk about 15mm but 14 worked and gave a good shoulder to lock up into.
NB as you would know with the larger 35cal hole the no3 barrel is similar in weight to a no2 or a longer no1 .
I would have thought the 1/2" at 12.7mm OD is not going to leave a lot of barrel material.
Even the M14 only leaves <1.5mm of sold steel at the grove diameter.

I checked that of course, the .35 baffles are over .40 & the .375 S/S baffle is over .410 in the hole department, so plenty of room !
