    Trail Cam security

Wondering if any of you have had trail cams stolen? Thinking of putting some up on public land but it be a pain in the arse if someone nicks it.

Sorry if this topic has been covered on here.

Just a piece of stainless wire and a small padlock. You will only stop the honest ones.
Best thing is to put it somewhere no one will see it.

I agree with Shearer - put it somewhere that it can’t be seen, because if it can be seen then someone will steal it.

I had quite an expensive Reconyx stolen a few years ago now. It was padlocked to a tree with stainless wire and a Python lock. By the looks of the tree they had just shot the lock to take it.

I did think someone might open the camera and take the SD card, but wasn’t expecting them to steal the camera. It was security coded so they couldn’t do anything with it anyway.

I heard they may stick them in the freezer for a week to get the internal battery to lose its charge, lose the code and then go from there?? Someone more knowledgeable will know.

usually the trick is that you have two
one facing the trail you want to photo animals on
the other pointed at the trail camera pointing at the trail you want to photo

that way you get beauty shots of the mongrel stealing your camera

Its what I do but its always on my property when I do it

You’d think another hunter/firearm owner is one of us and live by a similar moral compass.
I’m always amazed at just how different others can be..

Yeah it is upsetting that such shitty people with firearms licenses exist in NZ. Shame that shitty people exist in general but thats life.
