    Truing up an oil stone

So, I have an old (like borrowed from Dad 40 years ago old) Indian oil stone.
It doesnt have a distinct dip or anything, but feels pretty uneven when putting a knife over it.

Any tips for getting the surface back to square/flat?

A sheet of 240 grit wet and dry on a flat surface, glass pane etc. Lubricate with Kerosene or similar. circular motions or figure of eight, not back and forwards. Check with a straight edge.

And if its full of shitty oil you can gently boil it in a shallow pot ( old pot ) of water with something under it so that its not on the bottom and leave it there for ages and the oil will slowly come out.

Because generally why aren't intended to be used with oil !
Water is just fine for most stones
Oil is a lubricant and therefore not the ideal medium for grinding

Or put it on a flat diamond wheel with water which will do the job.

I stole the stone from the old boy, and he always used fine grade oil. I just followed on with that
