Waist Pack thoughts experience?

Hi All

Noticed on my last trip out, particularly when tired, my fleece piku which admittedly is always too full, started to feel a bit top heavy, had me stumbling around on a couple of occasions.
Now always keen to buy new gear when I can and often when I can’t afford, so wondering whether it’s retail therapy or a sensible solution to look at a waist pack type system. I think I’ll always carry a bit more gear than most so so far only the Hunter Element Divide Belt bag looks to have the capacity ( Badlands also have an option but can’t find a kiwi stockist)
Anyone using that or thoughts on waist bag vs day pack
Also looked at army surplus rigs but the fact that they are clip top pouches rather than zips puts me off despite being a lot cheaper.

Would getting a day pack with a waist belt to help take some of the load off your shoulders and onto your waist?

Thanks for you reply but it’s more about lowering my centre of gravity I think, just feel a bit top heavy at times that has me a little unsteady in the rough stuff.

I've got couple of five pocket rata bumbags....they need a strap across shoulders to keep them from riding on thighs. I will keep bumbags inside my fleece pack but if shoot an animal place meat in pack n wear bumbags. If your unsteady.stop n have a break...hot cuppa,soup,noodles...back in the day I would say have a smoke lol. Also consider that if daybag already full,you have zero room for meat.

Have tried several different waist bag options and always go back to 40l pack with waist belt.

An expensive but good option for what you are wanting. I have one.
Only draw back is that there is not a lot of room for meat. I chuck the pin boned legs over my shoulders.

I generally hunt with a molle belt and pouches. I like it because it's customisable and there's nothing on my back to make me sweat. You can spend $$$ and get TwinNeedle or as I have done, get a belt off AliExpress and add military-style pouches. I like the latter because they are weatherproof and have buckles which can be opened quietly. Zips always sound horrendously noisy when I'm bush hunting. For trips down further south, I relent and carry a pikau as well for extra clothing, but I try not to load it up with too much weight.

If like pikau get a Swazi buffalo bag they doing a run at the moment. They don't ride high like pikau

I use a foxtrot belt rig from Bushlife https://bushlifenz.com/collections/f...t-mk2-belt-rig. can attached a fold up meat pack in case get lucky

The bushlife rig looks bag on in terms of capacity, looks like it’s made out of cordura though which might make it a bit scratchy and noisy compared to fleece. I’ll def consider it tho, reasonably priced as well.

I've got this sitting around. Collecting dust. Alps outdoorz little bear. Had it for years but only used once. Worked sweet but I've got a million other packs so never use it.

You can have it for the price of postage man if you just want to give the system a try.

I normally overnight, so carry gear in big main pack and use a Twin Needle Capsule 2 for day hunting. @MB is right, they are not waterproof, but it takes a bit to soak through and the stuff inside (Kill bag, medi bag, utility bag, hydrapak flux 1 litre collapse bottle) is fine wet. The mobile goes in a ziploc bag inside and the garmin sits in a Twin Needle gps pouch (got them to sew it in). Very light, very compact and comfortable when weaving between the supplejack/rubbish. Like to hang meat broken down for pick up on the walk out. Works well. Do like the thought of MB's hunting belt. Mates use the Badlands bum bag. It is huge, weighs over a kg, and has stacks of room, but very Team America with all sorts of pockets/zips and garbage I don't want.

I swear by my Badlands bumbag. 18L capacity iirc. Ideal for a day walk. I went to this style after finding I was getting too hot/wet w perspiration wearing a day pack on my back.

The badlands comes with a shoulder harness which distributes the load nicely imho.

I carry a large plastic bag etc for a carry-out.

I tried a few different set ups, but have settled on the Buffalo bag from Swazi. I have added another pouch on for ammunition, plb etc. Works well. Sits alot better than the ridgeline bumbags and I find it doesn't ride down.

That's a mean day hunt set up @Dunny7 Thanks for posting the photos. This looks like the perfect day hunt set up if you like using a belt bag/hunting belt, with the option to carry out meat in a collapsible pack.
