I was seriously looking at the reciprocating saws and battery powered chainsaws after my last leatherwood encounter. If I was staying here for longer I think I would buy one and do some track work.

They way I look at it is, I look after some poorly funded DOC tracks for the benefit of the general public, then always seem to get lost .5km off the track and need to periodically cut my way to a bivi camp with the help of my mate Stihl!

If you are meaning mine - it cuts Kanuka/Manuka up to 10 inch not problem - pine 12-14 inches
As I said its a saw that runs when you pull the trigger - with the petro 035 and 031 I have - the bastards keep you working as they keep running and you feel you must keep working
Maybe you will understand better on day in the future
Also very good around the renovating/building site (landscaping more so) cuts a very fine cut - near as good as a Skilly

Chains, I get them off Aliexpress for $50 for 5 posted so I don't sharpen them, just bury them when they are buggered!
No nails, barbed wire etc where I go just bush!
021 Stihl, the battery is 1l of 91 octane!

I’m about as good at sharpening my chainsaw as I am at sharpening my knife, bloody hopeless. I think I will stick with the Armstrong folding saw.
I do like the way you think with the chainsaw, but seriously there would be house sized clearings everywhere if I took one with me.

For hand jobs, one of these is brilliant, beats a "normal" pruning saw and has 3 blades in the handle one for wood, steel and bone.... and you can remove them if you dont want the extra weight.

I got one a few years ago from reloaders in Ak.

Silky F180 for me, it is one of the most used tool in my kit and use it more than my knife.. I saw antlers off, skull mounts, open briskets up, trees and branches on walking tracks and 4x4 tracks, cut wood at huts. Go through 2 or 3 blades a year

Used a Silky 180 for a while, and was most impressed with it but thought there had to be something even better so tried a Silky Gomboy....it has a longer thinner kerf blade that cut wonderfully as long as it was used properly. I managed to break two blades in short order by pushing, so gave up and went back to the more forgiving F180......plus its lighter!
