roll a 65 for 2-3 day overnighters tipping between 10-15kg (obviously on heavier end if tenting and depending how far packing in)
Anything more than 3 days I ususally gnab the 90 litre just so I have more room for the extra food and bits needed for a longer foray.
I don't know how guys get away with 40 litres for a decent overnight either your walking to a camp where all your stuff already is or hope luck is on your side and you don't need a jacket and extra food if you get caught out a bit later than expected
I can get everything in for 2 nights in my 35liter and still have spare clothes and carry out meat.
I got it deliberately so i had to cut down on Shit in my pack, have a 70-80liter that is now used pretty much only for fly/boat/drive in.

I've down sized from 65 to a 55 ltr . It stops me carting useless shit I don't need . Just down sized tent bed roll ( inflating) so will have oodles of room now . I like to use my pack as a day pack once I've made camp , so the 55 is perfect quite lite too
I see trampers with those 90 ltr packs and think what the hell do the carry in there ( fresh clothes for every day )
85 ltr Karrimor which is over 20 years old, im 1.88 tall 95 kg.......use it for 1 night or 8 nights....compression straps on the sides make it smaller if need be, big top flap and water bottle compartment on the back......will probably get cremated in it!!!!!!!!!!
My main pack is a Black wolf Sierra 85 ltr (70 main plus 15 day pack). day pack attaches very nicely to main pack.
I picked mine up for $130 at the sika show on special, and so far it has been fine for two/three day trips. Quite impressed at the price.
I don't think it would withstand regular outings to scree country, bush for NI bush it is all good
I have 4
45l markhor for day hunts, more for my longer range hunting/shooting and a 40l huntech for bush hunting as it is fleece outer
65+10 markhor for over night trips( so I don't take so much shit)
90l tatonka for longer and heli trips
