Thread: What Sling?

So have just acquired my first stainless/synthetic rifle........for the last 40 years I have exclusively owned and used wood/blued gats, but decided I should try something different.

Any particular advice/ things to consider with respect to choosing a sling for this? In the past its been a simple matter.....no choice, leather it was. However, a cursory look in the local H&F suggests there are a plethora of different brands/materials etc to choose from.

So suggestions on brands, materials or or other things to consider would be appreciated.

I have used heaps of slings, the best one I have found is the Butler Creek Comfort V-Grip, it’s light and grips your shoulder nicely and doesn’t slide off, it’s brilliant.

Nothing worse the a sling that slides off the side or the rifle keeps tilting.

Best sling I have ever used and I use on all my rifles now is the chinese milsurp heavy canvas jobs, simple, strong and surprisingly comfortable

These buggers, i remove the leather strap though and connect straight to sling stud clip

Ones that don't take on Hook grass seed
Got a flash Blaser one and its a magnet to hook grass

I got the Tourbon slings in with optics at very good cost and they came with quick detach swivels and are good value
Plenty on Ebay I think

Quake 'CLAW' slings are my preferred. The standard straight one is best. Not sure where to get them from in NZ as I got my ones from Canada.

May be an equivalent type in NZ?

I have been playing with a fero concepts slingster for the last few months, highly impressed with how I can quickly change how I carry the rifle or use it as a shooting aid. Ill never buy another sling that just designed to cary a rifle over your sholder again

Niggolah (think that's the correct spelling) are very good. They have a grip surface and as well there is just the right amount of elastic stretch and spring so that the rifle won't bounce on your shoulder when running or moving fast. The elastic stretch cushions any bounce and combined with the grip the rifle just sits on your shoulder. I doubt there is a better sling.

Niggeloh, and yes they are very good

What ever you get make sure it wide.
I've played with many slings, padded and non padded and I like simple nylon webbing that is 1.5" wide.

Like Res I have grown to like and prefer a sling that can be used as a shooting aid, with a bit of practice they provide awesome stability.
Some of the more 'Practical Shooting' sling have bungee sections sewn in which can help absorb the weight of the rifle.

Awesome slings!

Never use a sling but have an old one in my pouch for the day I do need one.

I like simple (and cheap!) slings. My last one came from Aliexpress. What can go wrong? It's a bit of webbing. And it would suit a plastic fantastic rifle!

got a neopreme one and it feels really good after long day,got quite a bit of give in it so has a bit of bounce.

Yeah, mine’s from AE as well, although I didn’t have as much luck. I chose it because it came with some decent looking swivels, which seem ridiculously overpriced in NZ. Swivels turned out to be great, but the strap is a bit stiff and constantly slips off. Oh well, like a lot of my gear it will do until the bank balance recovers from setting myself up from scratch!
