    Who's pulled down a Ruger 10/22 magazine?

I have 2 10/22 10 shot magazines, one of them cycles brilliantly the other jams.

After looking at a youtube video I thought that doesn't look very hard, 2 hours later and mentally f--ked I have it back together with no real confidence.

What got me was the little spring which you have to fit in a microscopic hole which requires a set of glasses, a magnifine glass and an industrial sized head lamp.

When you turn the mag to tighten the spring the pressure to push up the bullets seems too weak but then a little bit more of a turn and out pops the spring from the wee hole so time to start over again.

What an epic waste of time, do not try this at home, I repeat do not try this at home.

They are real easy to do when you know how. Simply assemble the magazine with the hex nut and screw removed and the spring sticking through the hole in the cover plate, hook the hex nut onto the spring tag , wind on 2 - 2-1/2 turns and push the nut into the hex recess, hold everytihing in place between your finger and thumb and refit the centre screw. 30 seconds to a minute.

Pretty easy really. They do collect gunk over alot of rounds.
Secrets the spring tension putting them back together.

Yep I saw it on youtube looks easy but problem was anymore than a turn and click the spring popped out of the hole.

2 and a half turns- no chance

maybe that wee hole has got a bit of grit in it so that could be why you're having so much trouble

Cheers for the replies folks, I have it back together so will see how it performs.

A word of warning if you rest your riffle on something to take a shot always check your magazine is still in the riffle, twice on Friday night I heard the dreaded click sound so looked down to discover my mag had dropped out somewhere.

Lucky when I retraced my steps I found it again but only because the paddocks were bare of grass or otherwise I would have lost them.

The wee lever to eject the mag can get knocked easy and mag ends up on the ground.

I've cleaned mine and got the hang of it ok. It definitely helped but the problem ones still give occasional jams. I'm kind of getting to think they have a use by date. I would be careful buying used ones for this reason. A couple of mine came to me 2nd-hand. They are the problem ones.

I bought both of mine new but one was always a bit suspect and that's the same one giving me greif now so I think you are dead right.

There are a few options for mag release lever, I swapped mine out as I prefer a flush push button than the external lever
