Winter/Alpine - above snowline pants recommendations?

What pants or layering system does anyone recommend specifically for winter/alpine above the snowline?

I've signed up for an alpine course and keen to get into some winter Tahr & Chamois hunting and a bit of mountaineering in the future. There's a few "outdoor" companies I've looked at online that sell soft shell pants targeted towards alpine mountaineering etc but in my experience these typically don't stand up to the rigors of hunting... maybe something from the likes of Firstlite etc will fit the bill or am I best sticking to basic layering principles with long John's & overtrousers etc?

Basic layering works well for most alpine hunting.

I stick to my normal year round pants and then add or remove base layers/outer layers. I get far to hot when climbing to be able to wear a warm stand alone pant but that’s me personally.

Shorts and long Johns then over trousers overtop if the wind gets up.

Same here, although need new overs as last pair died recently

I like the montane stretch pants, very good year round. The Alpine models are just too thick and heavy.

I have a pair of Montanes too.
The belt clip comes undone some might change that but fit and everything else is pretty good.
Not used in snow of course as we are in the tropical north.
But pretty good when warm and when getting chilly.
