Believe it or not, Kmart bamboo stuff is actually OK.

Doubt there’s any bamboo in any of the bamboo products.
Kathmandu merino socks are a bit pricey but last very well and are comfortable. Icebreaker is half price at Torpedo 7 at the moment. https://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/...B&gclsrc=aw.ds
Ashburton sock factory has good wool socks.
Check out the NZ Sock Company - based in Ashburton, NZ made and make tramping socks etc.
Brian and Hunteast beat me to it. Their seconds shop is awesome if you're passing through Ashvegas. They make stuff for Swazi and Kiui... keui... kuioo... the fancy yank one with lots of vowels. Very reasonably priced when you see what they sell for normally.
Wool all the way!
+1 nz sock co:thumbsup:
plus another for nz sock
When I was young Mum used to cut the bottom out of her old stockings to put over our gumboot socks to make them last longer. I did it right through my meat hunting years.
Funny the things we do without proof that it actually works. I just assumed it did 'cos Mum said so. Maybe it did.
Heard about the ashvegas shop
Stupid me too as all the times I could've gone there when I was working down south and coming home from nightshift every 4th week, I could've gone in there.
Mind you I was always trying to get home for a sleep lol
Wool all day man. Same as most things, buy once cry once. Decent wool socks last.

I will find out tomorrow and flick you a PM... daughters workmate sells them.... not ideal in gumboots but they work well in lace up boots...surprisingly heavy..they do take longer to dry after washing...but they sure are warm.
I got some bamboo socks from K Mart a few weeks back. They feel nice to wear and are comfortable but they dry very very slowly.
I washed them with some other woolen socks and clothes yesterday and put them on the drying rack in the lounge. Fire going and big ceiling fan on. Last night everything was dry (some very thick wool socks included) except the bamboo socks which felt like they had only just come out of the washing machine. They are still more than just damp this morning.
I am looking for some wool or possum/wool combination socks at the moment. All of my socks are mostly cotton or nylon and I want to have at least one good pair. Not sure which company is good to buy from though. All I know is that the nz sock company seems to be brought up a lot.
The socks im looking at from that company is this one https://www.nzsock.co.nz/mens/alpine.../natural-twist
These are some others ive been looking at

Norsewear do a decent range of socks, that include merino and or possum fibres,
Good company, good quality.

I swear it was the Norsewear stand at Fieldays about 6 years ago I purchased a 3 pack of very thin long work socks. Have been bloody marvellous: durable and easy to haul the thicker coarser socks over the top of to get the required thickness and comfort in my work Ashley gumboots. Are only just now beginning to hole on the heel. Would love to get some replacements, but their website doesn't appear to list such a sock anymore??
Always wear a pair of thin nylon socks under coarse woollen socks to prevent blisters.
How many of us wear two pairs of socks to prevent blisters?
Ha ha ha ha. I also got into the habit of trimming the worn out heels of holy socks so I could wear them with the upper now the sole in order to extend their useful life. Prevention of blisters becomes a priority if you spend weeks in the bush and streams without getting near civilization. Did'nt often wear pants either; just swannie, belt and underdaks. Keep moving so the damp did'nt make you cold. Morning socks would be stiff from each nights smokeing over the fire and boots always wet.
Mostly washing was in the creeks before starting evening wood cutting and brew up. One time after walking across Hanamahihi flats we found we were covered in ticks / lice. Swannies et al were tied down under the river overnight to get rid of them; a real pissoff cos they were not only wet but cold and heavy next morning. The most embarassing thing was going into chemist when in town to buy clear fingernail polish. Used this to reseal old battered scope when it fogged up. Dried out near fire till fog gone then painted the stuff on around ocular rim to reseal.
Enjoyed all of it actually. There were some very solid people out there and it was challenging to keep up with some of them and interesting learning from their skills. Some good memories and many life lessons learned.
ive had no trouble with gumboot socks sold at farmlands and rd 1. Renforced in right places. Worn daily from gumboots to boots to shoes or just socks indoors. Get a lot of use. Warm. Wool. Last about 1 to one and half years swapping use around in packet of three. Havent used anthing else in about 10 years. Last lot were about 35 bucks a year ago.
