A spot in Takapuna where the bus transit area is besides the motorway used to hold a few that I ran my dogs on some years back . I think a few liberated pheasant or quail could do ok in my area which has a wet land and native forest all next to the harbour bridge believe it not !!!
My first recollection of a pheasant is when as a 6 year old our house looked down into the area now known as Unsworth Heights next to the Northern Motorway. They used to come out of the gorse filled gullies to fossick in ours and neighbours gardens.
Have also had a cock-bird fly into the side of my truck just north of the North Shore Sewage Treatment Ponds beside the Northern Motorway.
there's at least 4 cock pheasants around the Gulfharbour marina that i hear crowing every morning, but not usually at 2am, also had 2 canada geese fly over this morning too
Try walking in Waikumete cemetery. full of plenty of quail, pheasants, rabbits.
would it be sacrilege to train my dog there?
I know I wouldn't mind if I was dead :)
technically all dogs should be on a leash in the cemetery, but you will get a warning before getting kicked out if you don't.
You may find your dogs will be so confused with so much scent they won't know which way to go.
if rover comes back with a bone in his gob then leave promptly.
