Is there a place online where F&G display all the information collected?
Here's the F & G link re banding...
Banding together | Hunting
They couldn't shut up about the jacket. I have a jacket.
Is it law that we have to send in the band details
If the band is like fish you could win something , hang on its Fish N Game no maybe not
No, but it would be sad if people didnt, even if the numbers recorded are but a fraction of the number of bands used...there is an expectation that anyone who is a hunter is going to because of our inherit curiousity in the lives of our gamebirds...
I still haven't heard back about the last one. Might not have gone through like yours. Got a couple more since then in the same hunt. Now have 4 all up got one last year.
Still I want to see the information they have gathered. How many years have they been tagging now?
Well I got a letter today, my band information went through. Could of saved some $$ and emailed it but meh, this duck is from parakai, Helensville banded on the 19/01/2013. Shot in Wairoa.
Time to google and see where this place is
Heck that's a hell of a journey. Helensville is on south edge of Kaipara.
Yeah just googled it. I'll let you guys know where the next ones came from too. Just sent 2 numbers in today
I shot a banded bird that was from Wanganui, they certainly get around. 138km from banding to Dvke.
Last year me and pop got one from gisborne. Ducks seem to travel lots I'd like to see all the data Fish and Game have collected
Shit, I shot birds for some 40 odd years and not one band, my brother shot for about the same and got one. Hard case
May be gun shy and deaf but still taste the same
Bit of an update from F&G
'Pleasing response' to duck band call to duck hunters | Fish & Game NZ
kinda makes regional limits make even less sense when you see how far they travel
You're right Prattpoint; trouble with limit setting is that to make the Gazette, the limits have to be in to Min of Conservation by mid Feb for approval; so if any time after that there's an outbreak of disease, or a big drought, or a tidal wave that downs a zillion ducks then the limits per region are still the limits. (F&G councils do have some powers to change conditions in special circumstances but imagine the nightmare scenario of trying to advise 35,000 people that things have changed.....)
Got another band tonight :)
Well I went from F&G fb page to doc back to F&G and they don't release it because it cost heaps and may get misused in the wrong hands.
bit of a bugger I was keen to see where birds tend to go, see if I can find any patterns and stuff but never mind
They should still give you the info from your banded birds.
Yeah, I get my band info but I want all the band info. Can't find a decent pattern with 5 bands :)
Shoot more ducks:P Where were the others from?
Haven't had those ones back yet.
Well he gave me some info now. Shit loads of places I haven't heard of so next week I might take a day off school and map them all out
Has @Happy been shooting anymore Maketu ducks?
Here is some info from the national banding scheme....some long distance recoveries. Mallard duck 3000km:wtfsmilie::)

Gone through some of the wairoa banded ducks and can't say I've found any pattern yet. They seem to just go all over the show
