Duck calling
Hello ,
Is anyone else practicing their duck calling for opening ?
I am a beginner duck caller , this is my second season shooting over my brother in laws pond. He has got me into shooting (duck, deer and rabbits).
I am cramming half hour practices in at night , driving my wife and 5year old daughter crazy. Im watching utube videos and finally sounding like a duck.
Oh and Im using a mutt cupped winged caller.

good on ya bud...welcome to the addiction.....biggest hint...go to local park with a loaf of bread.....the local ducks will tell you if you blow a wrong note.... when they shut up,you have done so...when they carry on ignoring you,you doing it ok......
I did this for weeks , just work on quiet single quacks...thats a hen saying "hello big boy"
if all you do is single quack...and add in the wee chatter or two as a BACK UP...fill in... while the other fellas try all the fancy pants stuff.... you will be helping. trick is to be doing your bits, when they stop...far better to have a single quack right than try a big long string and run out of puff and sound like shit....Ive been trying to get that message across to BIL for 20 years...and he still pisses me off LOL.

When I take the five year old girl to the local park , I listen carefully and have only just started to sound like a duck tonight. I simply couldnt get the raspyness down.
I figured what I was doing tonight and will practice tommorow night again.
My brother in law has a rule , that if you cant call , you dont get to keep the steel tag from the leg of the duck you shot ( if they have them on ). Its good for a bit of banter in the Mimi. We hang them off our lanyards.
Im sure I will be able to get the simple single call down and hopefully get the come back call down also.

five notes is ALL you need...to the rhythem of the old nursery rhyme three blind mice...in fact that itself is heap enough to quack...three blind mice, three blind mice three blind mice.......quack quack quack....... dont over think it,,,dont over blow it...quiet and right beats loud n wrong.
tika tika tika is your feed chatter,or duck jostling another in flight.
