Floods again in lower North Island but Bo and I made our way to a pond after work and never heard one. No shooters scaring them they all probably in paddocks.

Yeah definitely learn a lot by just watching how they react.its funny some.ducks you can howl at and they respond others more call shy. We have had many ducks just turn up in the decoys when we are mucking round without even calling. But learning to call well is a definite advantage. Most callers in our block would think they sound fantastic..
Go Dash :D
We slipped and slid round forestry tracks Sunday. On my own and there were a few times I wished i wasnt as the tracks were pretty awful. Saw 3 quail (flew off as i entered forestry) logging has wrecked where i usually go. I'm hoping perserverence pays off in the end
Took a couple German girls for a walk in the forest. Only one bird seen for 3hrs of walking. Need to find another section of forest with younger pines or cutover.

Was the only shooter out on the harbour and the birds decoyed well...Got a triple with the first 3 birds that came in, followed by 2 doubles on the next 2 pairs that turned up for dinner...

Came home from our Northland trip and started getting stuck in around the Northern Waikato close to home
We were rewarded for our efforts with some great hunts
Shot some fish and game land close to home, wind direction was perfect most of the week so we did 3 hunts in here
First shoot we got 9x Mallards, 1x Swan
Second shoot we got 20x Mallards
Third shoot we got 5x Mallards including this barnyard special we are getting mounted

Did a midweek hunt down towards Waitakaruru, we have hunted this farmers land for a few years and while we see hundreds if not thousands of birds heading to and from the firth, very few are low enough or display any interest on coming in to the field spread.
Every year we tell ourselves we aren't going back and its just too much of a heartbreaker. This year was different, a patch of surface water had them committed in the final hour of shooting light resulting in 13x of the hardest won Mallards we've ever shot!

Warm clear weather arrived in the Northern Waikato for a few days last week so we decided to give the ducks a break and went after some Pheasants
Best mate had purchased a new U/O Beretta just before the season and I've been playing away with a 28ga I bought for my eldest to learn with
Our first hunt we managed to bag a Rooster each making it the first for both these guns
[ATTACH]224623[ATTACH]
A day or two after that we went out again this time with 2x more friends who have never shot pheasants, the conditions were perfect with squally bursts in between sunshine and we managed to pull off the most spectacular hunt of our lives, ending in a 4 man limit
My GWP was on form, and the shooting was also, doubt we will ever replicate that shoot for the rest of my days

Went out Tuesday morning and it was very quiet, except for a group of 5 Parries that came in. Only 2 went out, so 3 for 3.

my old pig hunting mate had an awesome bitch Sue..she was half lab half ridgeback...mean on cattle or pigs, hard as hell..but soft around kids and if flappers were in a pond she would go in and retrieve them without breaking feathers...parrie flappers would dive under to escape,SUE would dive under too and chase them and catch them UNDER WATER..... nearly 40 years ago now but I can stil lsee it clear as.
Downed a mallard from here that was way over in the top left corner.

Alas both dogs are gone ,Elvis to incurable kidney disease and Red whod really come into his prime accidentally drowned in a culvert in the RDR.It broke all of our hearts . two bloody mighty characters whom illnever ever forget.
Two of us accounted for 5 mallies and 1 pheasant on Saturday. On Sunday, this was all we got - no shots fired!!

@Woody nice looking pond you have there:)
Yes. Nice creek running through it. Full of trout and some eels as well. Good variety of wetland birds to watch and enjoy too. Am fortunate.
slow sunday in the whangamarino. Hardly heard a shot fired. Managed 3 missed a heap due to allsorts of issues. Crap shooting, mates waiting for birds to get closer when i had them close enough. And falling asleep in the hut after having to wader in to our spot due to everything been flooded. The 3k walk was sure a beauty.
Fucked up my camera settings tonight but didn't fuck the ducks up as never saw any.

a classic case of terminal contraception there Mr Dundee via 12g blowjob!!!well done sir!!altho the late but not lamented aussie marsupial may beg to differ.
Didn't get anything last weekend when I went down to the Waikato. Hardly any ducks flying around lake Waikare, although a couple of swans landed outside my spread that I didn't notice until they touched down. I'm busy this weekend so that's the end of the mallard season for me, tally = 0 mallards, 1 parry. I took my dog out pheasant hunting for the first time ever, it was hard getting him to stay with me, he ended up running off and putting up two beauties out of my range the other day
