Not a lot of hunting this season, but nice to finish it off with a couple of BOP quail.

This is beautiful as well your side by side. The feather is good material for making flies and the quill is nice. Do you or kiwi enjoy eat them? If so, usually how you will cook it?

I just treat it like tasty, slightly dry chicken.
Mostly I schnitzel the breasts, coat in panko and very lightly fry them.

Thank you. I like your picture, very sharp and your gears. Yeah and your birds Btw, all your activities were done in public land or some how is a private place, a forestry land with permit only for example?

There is almost no public land pheasant hunting in the North Island, but a permit for Kaiangiroa is easy to get, and I hunt on a handful of local farms also.

Right now it is perfect for the duck shooters down on the Kaipara river with shot guns blasting away but when that mist lifts it will be a different story.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Eight for the morning here in Hawkes Bay. Definitely down on other years.
Kids still love it though and the bismuth is so expensive that I am probably fortunate we weren't inundated with ducks

I used to love opening day when I was meat hunting. I knew all of the cockies would be busy in their mai mai’s …

    Very cunning.
I'm not very old in the scheme of things but even in my lifetime in this district that I shoot went from hearing multiple shooters around the place, getting fewer each year to absolutely zero this opening.
Seems to be a dying hobby in a few places.
Sad really because it is a very easy way to introduce kids to the outdoors as you can often bring plenty of gear and it usually isn't too strenuous.
