I had a wander round our block today - pruning young natives, digging weeds and more bloody weeds - blowing like shit so no spraying
Must have seen ten roosters, couple of hens and heaps of Quail and Tui - roosters crowed all day
Nearly stepped on this nest - hope she comes back - couldn’t resist taking a pic - not a lot of prep - just straight into green grass
Went round all my thirty bait stations and 12 stoat traps - bloody possums are back and cleaned out four stations but hardly any rat bait touched - nothing in the stoat traps - not even a rat
Came home to semi suburbia and a bloody big rooster walked across the lawn but too fast for me to take a pic

I've been reading on a NZ chook site of FB about hedgehogs killing chicks, observed.
One less hare out where we walk the dogs, Obviously didn't get the email!! .
In the hare vs pointer stakes the hare is the loser at the moment. Smart arses worked a pincer movement and drove it into a fence.
Its currently residing in the freezer without its furry coat
:)
Every day my lab tries. but he can only get to about 10m, then the hare puts the hammer down. His eyes are always peeled when we ride around the farm but he will stay on the bike until i call his name, so i have done something right . I feel sorry for the poor bastard there are sooo many flappers around! But i will let him chase a duck if i think he has no chance. Before you poor nth islanders give me shit about that there are literally hundreds of ducks on the 220ha i run especially during irrigation.

Mine are steady to wing but not fur, my fault. Not too bothered about it either as long as they don't bump the birdies all good.
My lab x thought he was going to have an early breakfast this morning.:D Commands were 'Leave it ,LEAVE IT!' And he did good:thumbsup:

@GSP, has seen hedgehogs hassling sitting bantams...some people think they are cute little things, but I sure do not think that way...they are omnivores...
Very heartened to see a hen Cali with seven chicks on the road only some thirty minutes ago...hope she gets to keep them all...
I shot a big one a few months back other side of river when I was out for a pukeko shoot. Farmers complain about them but awkward to shoot in the area what with houses and the cycle trail. Darn hare was so big the photo makes my GSP look like a puppy carrying it. I put it in the freezer for the gundog club, but if I get another will eat it. Soak them overnight in water with a little vinegar added apparently. I'm sure I could get a good recipie off the Europeans.
I've ordered some phez chicks as my birds keep eating the eggs.
mine aint keen on hare to well bloody fed probably:omg
