    Rangers escorting those in blue...

Boys and Boyses, I was rather perturbed to read in the little flyer from F&G that Mr Plod is going to be going around with rangers, to evaluate etc the licences and conformity to firearm laws etc etc etc... This is our sport which we cherish, see as our RIGHT, will do much to keep now this...while I agree that some peoples behaviours are not only dangerous but also totally childish and irresponsible, is this going too far. Were we licence holders in on the know of this, was the matter brought to our attention, was there dialogue with licence holders about this? I do not mean to wah wah...what next, I ask...????

I have no problem with Constable Plod wandering up and asking to see my Fire Arms Licence. I would probably be severely urinated off if he then slapped a "Registration Expired" fine on my beloved Series 3 Land Rover whose rego expired this Tuesday.......But Hey, Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa

Normally the rangers are required to work in pairs when doing opening day ranging due to sometimes dealing with guys who are drunk and have guns. There's been a few guys who think its okay to play up when a ranger arrives on the scene and the interviews tend to take longer than they should.

Since the police have been accompanying the rangers its meant they can split the rangers up and check double the amount of hunters. People are much friendlier also and the cops don't have to say a word.

If there had been consultation, it would have been with the wrong people. Us, law abiders
I think its a fair call. I have nothing to fear, but the Rangers do. And that's damn sad.

How many guys out there let a young fella shoot with them and let them use their own gun as well as having yours? This is a genuine question, it was how I have always been bought up shooting and I could see it landing some people in the shit now if the Police are going around...

Why TB? There is nothing in the arms code that says there is to be only one firearm between 2 people is there? As long as they are under direct supervision it should be ok.
I could be wrong but I have never seen this as written law. My son has firearms that are his but he is never unsupervised when handling them.

The way I saw it was you can have 2 guns with you but only one can be assembled or ready to fire so you can't have 2 loaded and only one firearms license and you must be within arms reach of the unlicensed person if they're shooting.

"No matter how old you are, if you do not have a firearms licence but want to use a firearm, you may do so only under the immediate supervision of someone who has a firearms licence. In other words, the person with the licence must be with the shooter, and close enough to take control of the firearm if necessary. To meet this requirement the supervisor cannot be using a firearm at the same time."

You mean they are on your licence and you let him use them under supervision. He cannot "own" if he doesn't have a FAL
