Thread: Raupo taking over the Dam

Hey Guys
The dam that I shoot on private property has a bad Raupo problem.......We have used a machete to carve a lookout spot which worked well....... Does anyone know how to get rid of it??

Check with your regional council, but you can probably use glyphosphate.

Think for memory someone way back - burnt it on a Pond and that cleaned it up
Bit late for this season though

Use Roundup Ultra. Faster die off and there’s something in my memory about it being used in waterways. The trick is to be quite conscientious in applying to the raupo, not the pond. Use a silicone additive too. From memory raupo has a natural coating which makes it spray resistant. Choose your day to avoid wash off

Dont try and blast it out. Tried that once and all it did was blow the whole pond straight up in the air and dump it back down where it had come from. Then had to get a digger to dig all the crap out anyway. A bit of excitement for a while not to mention an earth-shaking boom, but not very successful.

wet and forget is basically palm oil. it clogs up the leaves and suffocates the plant

Tryed burning it of a stock pond the shit just keeps coming back. Digger and make sure you get ever last bit.

I had trouble a few years back with duck weed , the pond was completely chocka I sprayed it but whilst doing a little research on sprays & pond building came across some really helpful tips , with duck weed usually nitrate build up makes it grow but if the pond is getting to shallow & the water is constantly warm it explodes , likely its the same with most weeds if you dig the pond out make the middle area 3 meters deep so the water keeps cooler , at 3 meters its probably to deep for the raupo to grow

Yeah have seen that before......Might find out for next year

Coming home for lunch I saw two utes packed with mai mai supplies, one was towing a trailer full of raupo and scrub. Perhas thers a market for it?
