    Shooting maize stubble

So for the first time I have a couple of paddocks of maize stubble to shoot.

Had a crack this evening, plenty of ducks flying around although most of them were parrries.

Managed to scratch down a half dozen, could have been more but my shooting wasn't as good as it should have been. Going to put that down to a lurgy that's filled my head in the last 24 hrs.

Anyhow how long of a rest before I have another crack at them?

If they go back in to the same paddocks then hit them the next day there's a decent wind.

Keep going back to fresh cut, they will "disappear" when another paddock near gets cut.

Flocked decoys make a big difference on mallards until light fades. Parries only needs sillies.
The birds in our area don’t tend to turn up for a few days after the cut. If the population is good in your area, you’ll be able to shoot the same paddock more than once.
Same old thing though, if you’re not on the “X” it’s an uphill battle to get them to decoy well and you’ll end up shooting a lot of fast, distant birds. We typically scope out a paddock a couple days after harvest and once we know they’re visiting take note of their feeding area. Typically away from fence lines and hollows.
If you’re using layouts, spend time filling in all the grass loops with stubble. When you think you’re done, spend another 10 minutes doing more.
Can’t beat getting it right and they’re lining up like this.
