    Shooting Pigeons

Advice neeeded please! How far from your hide would you ideally need to set up decoys for shooting pigeons on maize.

Try 30 yards , or closer if you can get away with it . Be prepared to either shift your hide or decoys ( whatever is quicker ) if it's not working . They can be a challenge and seam to get out of shot gun range in a couple of wing beats. Great for your dogs , I was lucky to have a good shoot on them with my dog which has cemented a good solid retrieve.

Perfect for young dogs and our pointer breads as not much can go wrong . If your dogs have never done it before or not good on marking shot birds, dont use the deed birds as decoys as the dogs can get confused and will rush out and bring them back . I like to work the surrounding paddocks after wards and you always get a few downed birds that the dog will point . Good time to get a photo.
I'd shoot them every day of the week if I could . They roast up real nice too.

I am bloody keen to get onto some pidgies if you boys want another gun. Can swap a hunt for some ducks or geese.
