    Should the Pukeko have its gamebird status removed in the North Island?

    Pooks, Poo Cackers, blue pheasants, Call them what you will - have exploded in the last 10 years. Is it time we knocked them back?

    Most cockies will knock them back regardless of a season. but in areas where they have over populated and need to be knocked back a bit a cull could be done. having a game season will still help numbers build in areas where needed. also more attention put on how tasty they are might encourage hunters to shoot more of them.

    I get a laugh out of just making them take wing because they're so friggen' useless at landings! Every one is a crash landing.

    What about black swan and Canadian geese can we just get rid of those two horrors? Lake Rotorua should have none of the polluting black swans near it, wading in swan shit is not a good look for tourism?

    Canada goose is, to me anyway, one of the most delicious of all gamebirds to eat...and very exciting to hunt because they are very clever...

    The first one I ever cooked took about 2-3 hours stalking it up a river spooking it a couple times but once plucked and gutted was the best bird I've ever eaten hands down
