Four more sleeps. And fellas forgive me for I have sinned( why do all the naughty things feel so damn good?) fishing today and the shotgun came along just in case.mob of Canada's made mistake of letting me get close enough and managed to peel one out as they flew off.Name: IMG-20250429-WA0003.jpeg

Three more sleeps. Fed out last bag of grain and lugged sack of decoys across sodden paddocks to maimai. Won't be driving anywhere near it in near future...the other sixty decoys will stay home..

    Bad news on my front.

Doggo has broken a toe in the back right. She's out for this season.

Gutting is putting it mildly. Even though I know she would happily be there.

Doesn't take away from the excitement at all.
Keep it simple- hand me a model 7 7mm08 and I'll be right

I’m dropping my number of decoys in the spread this year as well, looking to match what I usually see on the big lake,25-30 ducks in one area, not 80 like I have set in the past, more ripple decoys this year though.

It just won't be the same for us this year, we normally catch up for a few beers on the Friday night at the Waitotara pub but that won't be happening this year after last week's fire

Brother has pulled out. Leaves me to do all the hard yards with my daughter. Never mind it will make the ducks we shoot feel that much more rewarding.

well mate and i had planned to venture to our honey hole on trhe rakaia again this year but given the horrendous weather for next 24-48hrs across the south island ,Ive called it on safety grounds .I do not want to be stuck between raging fucking torrents of water expecting others to risk their lives for our stupidity for the sake of a duck .plus access tracks will be like driving through 1mof wet fresh cowshit ,just asking to get bogged .my shotty can have saturday on a/l at this a point but have suggested if fine sunday mate and i do a scoot and shoot round some of our lake possies. mind you just back from shopping and bugger me the landscaping around the housing on what was RNZAF Wigram air base has converted to might fine duck pond with more than a few plum ducks floating about .oh fora 12g suppresor and a few less bloody busybodies .

Lots of extra duck ponds in Canterbury now
So the birds will be more dispersed

    Good luck though
