I'm looking for these hooks I prefer for Snapper fishing. The hook in the pic is a different size to the label but I use size 6 and 8 hooks. I have just about run out and want to buy more. Can anybody point me to a potetential or actual supplier with stock ? I'm not sure why any shops I've recently checked don't have them anymore.
Otherwise, if anybody wants to suggest an equivalent, I'm all ears.

My son uses 5/0 Occi on snaps and does very well with them including using them on a charter last week end where he got the most fish.
my go to hook for snapper both of the rocks and boat all drift fishing no sinker has been the Kahles hooks swear by them just give an extra sharpen before use
Those are all pretty good at snagging fishermens money.
I buy bulk boxes of square long line hooks. They work fine. And I'm guessing about a quarter of the price.
kahle hooks by mustad our goto hook keeps the line out of the teeth on big mouchers , dont strike let the hook do the work like a square set line hook
And the long liners wouldn't use them if they didn't work.Quote:

And you're right. Those Tro Kar hooks have been brilliant at snagging my money ! :(
Have a look at the Decoro website, they are showing the Lancet as out of stock but have a lot of similar looking options that do the same job. When I was running the charter boat I got a lot of them, they are pretty good.
Also got a lot of cheap crap off the Warehouse, and to be brutally honest the cheaper circle hooks used to be roughly as efficient with the average charter punter as the thinner gauge wire allowed them to role in easier. We basically used to used them once and if the punters didn't flog them they became owner's junket tackle when we went play fishing rather than cracking into new gear.

These hooks catch fish themselves. If you strike, you'll just pull the hook out of their mouth. Work best with your rod in the holder.
Sorry no pic as all my stock is gamgatsu from the warehouse , bought hundreds 15 odd years ago not sure if stiil stocked but caught 20kg puka on them . As in later posts best in a rod holder 10- 15 kg max rod 60lb braid and use the rod don't winch , I only use 4/0 size for teris cod snapper etc puka is bonus .Quote:

These hooks aren't anything special, they just work and are reasonably priced.
When old Jake the snake (baracouda) is around we might loose 15-20 sets of gear for the day. No point giving Jake flash hooks.

I got about 10 packs of those hooks bought in 2019 and now in my storage, but never have chance to use it. Black Magic.....is that right? The brand name....I am at home for the long holiday season otherwise I can spare you some. Of if till March, if you still can `t find any, let me know.
I do `t buy expensive fishing gears since I am a land based fisherman so far, do `t have my sea legs yet but I will. But the conclusion of they are the same as other hooks was not entirely correct, particularly for big fishes or big fight that will need more time to land the fish say over 15 minutes. Because the steel has it `s limit in term of endurance so some may brake, some may bend. The shape of the hook in my humble opinion is designed for targeting specific kind of fishes to fit their mouth, feeding behaviors etc so that to make better set hook.Quote:

I use quite big ones on snapper quite often land based and from boat no sinker just blood knot about 20 feet of 60lb trace and tie hook on - I got a packet of very small kahles from a shop closing down mustad brand real good on maomao and when bait fishing for mackrel - as many have said dont strike just let rod load upQuote:

I'm always boat fishing ( my mates boat as I don't own one ) and we have to use sinkers on our lines. We tried unweighted lines but unsuccessfully. Foremost issue is bloody seabirds waiting to snag cast baits. Unweighted baits sink slowly allowing time for birds to dive and grab baits. We've had the unpleasant task of unhooking shags, seagulls and others several times and don't want to do so again. The other but lesser issue with slow sinking baits is, when Kahawai are around, they can grab the baits before they sink to the Snapper zone below. It's some fun though as Kahawai fight fabulously but my mate especially would rather eat Snapper over anything else so sinkers are standard rig with our rods.
Striking is sometimes right, and sometimes not. Part of the mind game when Snapper are playing with the bait is determining when to play dead or strike hard. The temptation to strike is always high but if you think it's a big Snapper testing the bait it often pays to just let it run off a bit of line first. Those highly strung big boys can easily scare away with sudden resistance on the line.

I know what you mean with drifting baits and bloody sea birds if they become a nuisance I put a little ball sinker above my bait and lower bait in alongside boat
