    Berkeley soft baits on Trout

    Hi all!

Just had a tickle with the old 4" minis grub and. Something similar in the dark brown colours in Manapouri(that's what our billies are colour wise)

Has anyone tried em elsewhere for jigging for Trout etc?

Had a ripper of rainbow whack one but my 1/6 oz head wasn't exposing the hook enough. I have used the storm series and their great but for fishing the deeper water they don't get down quite as well.

    Your experiences gentlemen?

Nailed some trout and salmon on 4" jerk shads with 3/8th 1/0 heads at the canals. Not conventional but it worked.

Since moving south I have been surprised at the number of places you can fish for trout with bait (so scented soft baits as well). Having lived in Taupo for the last 23 years I had no idea it was the done thing down on this other island.

The ones with the broad tails (whale tail ) work really well .

This sort of thing , don't do heaps of trout fishing but when we do we kick arse with these . Worked well in the river as well . When we were in Raro we caught Tuna on same thing but slightly bigger 6" approx. Just wicked action in water

I've got some Nuclear chickens as Pink is a good colour for Manapouri. I've been told the small tail ones like above work mint but it's mainly for around the lake edge as it's REALLY deep. Hope to grab a small inflatable boat and just around from were the bottom changes from weeds to stones. Just with a 2hp outboard should be mint!
