Boated four browns yesterday, all under 2 pounds and poor condition.wife kept her one I released all mine. Beautiful day out on lake to end season.the fluctuations of lake level and it's seasonal drying nearly right up every few years is not doing fish any favours. Weed beds just can't get established and the stringy pest stuff is about all that comes back quick enough when lake is full. Oh well better than working and the kept fish wasn't too bad when filleted.

F@ck knows what I'm doing wrong but I can't even hook onto a fish, 4 months in going out after work 3-4 times a week and not one, I see them around Horotiu bridge but regardless of what lures I use, what bait I use and what techniques and rigs I use they swim straight pass. They get curious about the corn I throw out to catch koi but they won't touch it, even using a rig like a flout rig to suspend a few corn cornels or corn scented powerbait they'll ignore it. Close to throwing my hands up in defeat.

I went out for a fish yesterday - the last trip of the season for me as it gets too bloody cold from here on in. I caught a tiny brown trout who had eyes bigger than his stomach because he wasn't much bigger than the lure, so he was returned to live another day. But this trip will go down in the memory banks as an outstanding trip... not for the fishing... but for the number of animals I saw. I was gobsmacked to witness a mob of 51 fallow deer crossing the river just 200m from me, including a couple of big ol boys in beautiful condition. I saw a couple of other small groups of fallow dotted aroound the place, two red hinds enjoying the sun and, surprisingly... two mobs of chamois, totaling about 20 animals in all. All before midday.

Yup, I should have left the rod at home and taken the rifle instead.
