Bought a crab pot from burnsco.
Could be good for bait and burly in close late Oct early Nov?

Dont know about down there but you should be able to get paddle crabs year round? In the wash on a surf beach would be my choice

Use an old bike rim and zip tie some mesh over it. Put it behind the breakers with bait tied on and buoyed to surface. Paddle crabs get tangled in mesh. If eating said crabs, chuck into salted boiling water for 5 mins max, then into cold (chilled) H2O to stop further cooking. Rip back off, wash out guts and salivate as you slop your way though them. Crunch...crunch.. (Dammit; 'nuther filling gone!).

Yea the area was infested with them late 80s and 90s and probably the 2000s too but there were almost no snapper or rig either then.Quote:

Well I got 3 lol.
First set in about 6m with cuda fillet for bait. 30 min later bait was infested with sea lice and no crab.....into 4m or the low tide line as it was high tide. One small one and more lice in 15 min.
Into 2.5m and the inter tidal zone and added some salted mackerel bait an got 2 and no more lice but that may have been due to it being nearly midday.

The mudflats out by boulder bank rd end are infested with crabs. Don't know what type though

Iv never used a crab pot but I have used a few lighter cray pots , iv got a couple here the frames are made of fiberglass type stuff didn't really start catching much in them until I had heaps of weight on them , if the pot moves they don't work very well
Dont need a pot, just head to marahau in the dark and there are dozens of them there. Must wear waders, shoes etc as there are so many crabs without them wont be a good idea. Take a spear as well for a flounder, grab some cockles just before dark, and a load of crabs, good night out:)
