A day at Kawhia (A belated fishing report)

Ok I was supposed to do this at the start of the year lol

My son James came up for Xmas as it was my turn to spend Xmas with him. Decided that it would be good to get him out for a day of fishing and was deciding where to go at the time Waihi was out due to bad weather, wrong wind direction etc etc etc so it was by unanimous decision (naming the missus) that we would load up the surfacster and the trout rod (for catching sprats of course) and go to Kawhia for the day, the tides were up the shit and we got there on the outgoing tide. So we started out at Kawhia wharf.

Spent a couple of hours there where my boy and my other half caught a few jack mackeral and I caught and released a small snapper, after this we headed to Maketu Point to try our luck there

Spent a couple of uneventful hours at Maketu point where I only caught a big yellow eye mullet and James caught more sprats so we had a good day of catching bait but nothing tasty to take home for a feed, but all in all it was a good day and just being out there doing it is the best part.
