Full stop for all species I reckon! If you want to eat fish catch it yourself, no fish for sale!!
I watched a youtube clip the other day of a Chinese tuna boat operating in the pacific that can catch in one net set the entire tuna catch of a pacific island for a year!!
No wonder we haven't seen any albacore in Tasman bay this past summer! Such a shame, so much fun to catch on a rod!!
@Munsey... getting back to your original post about 'hatching a plan' If I was you id rent a batch in French pass.
Ramp good for launching in most conditions except big northerly/northeast.
Its a bit longer to tow the boat but more options once there.
Shit weather = bob around in pass for cod etc
Easterly = south through the pass round to paddock rocks etc
Westerly = up east coast to the top, rangitotoes etc
Mint conditions = world ya oyster
Can't launch = tow boat back south, fish in sounds ie Elaine bay for example

    Just my two cents worth

I spent ten years of my life mostly at sea commercial fishing to quantify my following comment.

I believe it is every human beings right to be able to catch a feed for themselves and family and with population growth in this country and the world there will reach a tipping point....for some species in some areas this has already happened and for some it is already too late.
That tipping point where there is not enough for rec and commercial to be sustainable, where it becomes impossible/impractical to legally feed yourself/family then IMO their can be no commercial fishing it is that simple.

So yes I support those family's, they will be able to catch fish to feed themselves.
