Afternoon drag with Dad and a workmate.
Nice conditions but the recent rain events then a few days of frost seem to have sent the flounder deeper.
We got 10 good sized fish which is a feed for us all.

Wee arvo fish today...wasn't really even planning on fishing I was planning on shooting a goat for dog tucker but being such a nice afternoon there were boats and people everywhere.
While they are a pest and on doc managed land and I have a permit some people can be a bit funny about you killing things in front of them so I headed up the coast a bit with 4 pilchards and piss all else.
Got my 2 cod and a couple of pannie snapper...released the little snaps and headed out to 35m for a laugh
You would never guess it but I caught a spiky dog..then another then a Kahawai....well it was a beautiful afternoon so what the hell steamed out to 45m and soaked some pilchard for 10min or so...no sharks...or anything else.
I was just thinking I'll give it 5 more min then my phone rang so of course my line took off as well.
Nice couple hours on the water.

Had a great day on the Firth out from Waikawau today. Started off fishing under some terns and picked up good snapper on the bottom using jigs. It slowed down do headed over to a barge. Was lots of smaller fish so headed out into tje middle to find a workup. Nothing could be found so just picked a random spot and drifted. I fileted the fish we had and when I looked at the sounder, sign was thick. We dropped jigs and instant hookup. Fish every drop. We kept another 3 fish each and then headed back to the ramp. Great day out.

    What’s lake Taupō like with a 10 - 15 knot NE boys??

Easy enough to tuck up somewhere?

I’m aiming for a sneaky Friday fish but not not sure if it’s worth towing the boat that way or not..

That's great! I love going to a new location and catching new species, whatever the size, especially under my own steam (i.e. no guide or charter). Bluefin trevally are great to eat. I caught one that was a bit bigger in India and took it to a restaurant for them to cook up. The deal was that they would serve me half the fish with sides and they could keep the rest. They were stoked and so was I. Living the dream!

    Yep that's 100% right MB !
Definitely all under our own steam, no charter or guide. I even drove the boat. This was the third one we have caught over the last few days and I just felt like releasing it.

The first two were eaten raw with coconut milk and were absolutely delicious

At some stage I will take the time to do a better right up

Nice! I'd put that second fish down as a type of pomfret, but I don't know the exact species.

@kukuwai They look a lot nicer than the beggars we are catching in the bay at present.
