After a day on the river yesty with only one decent trout landed................ I do take advice and it helps!

Baldbob I flogged a nymph of possom trapper He wasn't home so what the hell

The set up


Blue toby attached a nymph and I was set too go

Chris mentioned blue tobys before,so I set up the flogged nymph with a foot of nylon behind the toby

First cast,yup the nymph took the sardine but it was fun watching lure coming in with a wiggly little trout attached to the flogged nymph



I carried on and landed 3 more on the flogged nymph all small but it worked then a big wave or wake followed my two baits and I lost possom trappers flogged nymph

Bit of explaining when he arrived home tonight

Carried on with the toby recommended by Chris and got a lber But I released it As I thought bigger fish will be next

Anyway I stopped to change yet another lure and found these pliers when I changed lures Bit of CRC they will be sweet.

More casts during the last hour of daylight and I got 3 on the black fury


Well 8 trout today but released them all ,thanks possom trapper and I was told it was a home made nymph from PT

nICE I RUN THEM UNDER THOSE WEE PLASTIC clear bobble floats.. spot cast well upstream and wind up slack as it goes.. careful not to disturb the bobble... bitta water in the bobble! When it ducks under wind up tight you don't need to strike! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

interesting dundee, is the nymph in front or behind the spinner ?

spinner "chasing" something smaller (the nymph) would trigger something much bigger to have a go ?

I had the nymph behind the spinner but if possom trapper gives me another I will try the nymph first this time.

I have used this technique with flies before with some success .

DD fish using this in Taupo.use a ginger mick attached to hook on lure. Ginger mick is a deadly fly in Taupo. If I'm jigging just use 3#ginger micks about 300 mm apart.

Good work on making the Nymph too PT.

I started making my own flies when I was about 10.

My old man used to nick all my good flies too, but then he did keep me well supplied with fur and feathers and he did take me fishing so I suppose it was a fair trade.

Ok Maca an P38 show me a pic of this ginga mick I could google it but I might be shocked

PT lent me another nymph today and I had the lure chasing nymph he also joined me with his fly rod but buggered off an walked home as the wind got up a little after a while. PT still had to train pup,eat dinner, and go for a run so I stayed till 8pm.

Anyway landed 3 tonight nothing on the nymph all were hooked on the black fury.

Only tiddlers though,the nymph didn't look natural being chased by the lure as it looked like a stiff nymph not flowing free if ya get the drift. Might try the ginga mick fullas and baldbob I still might get a bubble float but I'm into spin fishing so this new phase won't last long with me

Not much of a fly man but is that a floating? Or a nymph?

Wet fly imitation smelt comes in all size hooks and xtra large for harling. My box is full of gingers

Tied in smaller sizes they do work well fished like a nymph, however they are classed as a streamer fly and are generally fished down stream with a slow retrieve to imatate a small fish.

Green Orbits and Black or Red Hariy Dogs work well in Hawkes Bay too.

Hairy Dogs are good at night and also when the water is getting dirty.
They are my go to flies for the Ngaruroro when it's cloudy and at dusk or into the night.

Good to see some freshwater advice on here cheers guys.

I was about to hand the nymph back to possom trapper tonight but I think I will keep this set up going till the knots brake

Then a shower of rain came out of no where



Ready to hand the nymph back and one hooked Not big but this rig is staying on till something brakes
