Got ready for a fish tonight after work but after seeing @BRADS picture crossing the stream up in the head waters of the Ruahine Ranges.
It was a fail, those buggers have been shitting in the water again:D
Attachment 28745Attachment 28746
Got down to the river at 1800hrs still high but clearing. Fished for two hours and only two bites. The last hit was a rainbow, seen it drop the hook and leap out of the water. The rise started at 1900hrs. Got a fishing seminar coming up,prize is a fly rod but that would make trout fishing to easy.:ORLY:
Sticking to the lures at this stage.:)

Very jealous of you having water like that in your backyard!
Storm blowing off the Ruahine Ranges tonight so I went to the river. It was very cold but calm for the first time in weeks.:ORLY:
Attachment 31621
The ranges were covered in the storm clouds, hail and rain at the river but I got a few pics in between showers. The Ruahines are usualy visable from this location.
Trying out the new "Mitchell" reel thanks @Chris it is a solid bugger but nothing solid got anchored tonight down there.
The rise was later than usual about 2035hrs and I was home by 2100hrs but good to be back into it after shit weather for a week.

Good onya for getting out mate, feels like a winters night here in dorkland. .....got my Fukin socks on!!!!!........what a wus........!
I figured seeing how you get rods smashed regularly the reel would be getting a hiding too ,Mitchell reels are what I use for fresh & salt water .Gets a bit expensive buying another reel every few months cause the japa has fallen apart or shit itself.
Does it cast & retrieve OK Mr D ?
Yes it does thanks Chris. PT must of wacked some old nylon on it,once I took that off an respooled with new nylon it was fine.
The river is getting low and have finally been able to cross it in my gumboots.Attachment 31812Attachment 31813Attachment 31814Attachment 31815Attachment 31816Attachment 31817
Having a bit of a looksie tonight in waters that haven't been visited since last summer.
Had one hook up but didn't land it.
My dog checks the depth of the water to see if its safe to cross. If he gets wet nuts I get wet feet:D He is looking back saying safe to cross.:D

River is buggered our end with low flow and weed. Not safe too take the dogs:(. Mrs Dundee,Sean and I drove 13km on road to get too the upper Manawatu River..would of been 20 or 30 following the river.
They fished upper Manawatu and I fished mid Manawatu R no trout were harmed.;) I spotted 4 rainbows and had a few chases. Sean saw a deer in the upper Manawatu River but they didn't see any trout.
Few pics I took tonight.

Isn't that always the way @Dundee
Take a rod and you trip over the Deer and can't catch a Trout.
Take a gun and the Trout are jumping at your feet but no Deer to be seen anywhere.
Take both and you'll see nothing.
Cheers
Pete
I think Sean will put up the pics, they may have been escapes from what I have heard. But the one I saw a few weeks back was no escape^
Family Fishing
Quite special for all of the family too be at the river at the same time. The boys are getting older and want to hunt and fish and camp elsewhere but tonight we were all on the same bit of water . No luck but family time is a win win situation:)

Froze my butt off down here the last cuppla days and only one bite. River is still high.
Attachment 38560Attachment 38561Attachment 38562
Lost the lure on a snag and attempted to wade in to retrieve it but the snow melt from the Ruahine Ranges was too bloody cold. I wasn't going deeper than my knees and fark that was cold enough so I snapped the nylon and called it a day.
Fish from the river bed in summer.:)
