Giving the new rod a workout

I decided it was time to get into some fishing again so went to h&f who kindly set me up with a nice wee 6ft 4 piece shimano combo. So off to the canals i went tried a couple of spots with no luck then as it was starting to get dark i was throwing a softbait around getting a few hits and managed to land a couple of small salmon 33 and 32 cms which were released to grow nice and fat for next time i go. Once it got dark i decided to swap for a set bait and within less then 30 seconds of sitting down my reel was screaming id hooked myself a beauty rainbow who i scrapped with for about 10 minutes before finally getting it to the bank. Didnt get a weight but what a fight on 8lb line its by far my biggest trout yet and has been sent for cold smoking. Not bad for a first outing with the new rod haha!
