Thread: New whitebait net

I have been building a new whitebait net since my recent disaster. I thought I would post a couple of pictures. It's almost complete, I will do the finishing touches tomorrow morning then hopefully back out on the weekend.



Someone has found my catch bucket, it got washed up on the other side of the river mouth. I have made another one already but it will be good for a spare. There are still some good buggers around to hand in that stuff when they find it.

Thanks, yeah I have tried to make it the same as the last one but only have a memory to go on. I really hate putting the mesh on, that's the time consuming part but it's finally finished and I'll be on the river in the morning. I'm looking forward to my first feed for the season

Thanks, my mate has a spare inflatable life jacket so I'll give it a go

I caught 4 KG's today so I'm pretty happy, got out before it got too rough. Yum I can't wait to start eating it

Only ever seen those nets on the Waitaki mouth,.haven't seen any over here where I fished,Coast.

Seems to be different nets for different rivers and areas, I guess people have worked out what best suits the river they whitebait. Slow moving deep rivers seem to fish better with big sock nets and rapid rivers in the surf fish better with the sort of net I am using. You seem to be doing great doinit, that's a bloody good haul you have on the whitebaiting thread. Good on you

Cheers there bud,that catch was not from this season ,I worked my stand for 14 plus years and had some rather good days on the river where I lived ,nothing like the South Westland hauls further down the line but good enough eh.
