One piece 6-7 ' Salmon, soft bait rod.

Hey all you fisho's. I am after a good one piece, up river salmon or soft bait rod, around 6-7 foot.

Dont know many "top of the line brands' when it comes to rods so any advice will be appreciated.
I can not imagine it needing to tackle anything over 25-30lb.

    Cheers

go on the Kayak Fishing NZ .com. forum. There's a guy on there (Awondering) that sells K Labs rods. The Guys on the forum rave about them for them soft baiting. They look very impressive and seem well priced

    Have to be one peice?
I use a starlo stix snapper spin on my softbait set up. Its bloody good but thats on snappers and kingis and is two piece at 7'
Pretty cheap and has a ton of power for a light rod.

For softbaiting ideally you want a rod with an IM7 or IM8 blank, this gives the rod awesome rigidity and sensitivity, bare in mind the higher the IM rating the more likely the rod will be to break when point loaded, IM6 is also ok but I find them a bit floppy for my liking. IM7 seems to be the one I like.

Something around the 6' 6" will do, are you fishing a baitcaster or spinning reel?

I use a Loomis Perfexion which I find awesome with 14lb braid on my baitcaster, the other good one I have is a Daiwa Red Back which is as good.

I find it is more important to find the right blank ather than maker, end of the day they all use fuji eyes and reel seats and most manufacturers make very similar rods.

Very nice rods, I nearly bought one but they had the Red Back in stock and I would have had to wait for that. Check out the Abu Garcia Revo NaCl baitcaster, Awesome!

Yeah plenty available in NZ. They were bought by Shimano so will be pretty available. Pretty common over Aus too I would expect.

CTS in Auckland make some really nice tubes too. If you can find someone to assemble it I would look at them as another option.

Cheers Spudattack. I have a few salmon reels and a wee baitcaster that is becoming my favorite. 6'6" ya reckon? I must be dyslexic as I cant find a link to loomis in NZ.

All good, ive never fished for salmon. Would have thought a two piece may be better if you had to walk to a spot?
That starlo stix is a Shimano btw. Love it, makes fishing fun. We were hitting the albacore and skipjack last season and it never let me down, good flex with reasonable stiffness
