    Rangitoto Channel Snapper

Decided to go for a mid morning fish last Sunday, phoned a couple of mates at 8.30am and told them we were leaving the marina at 10am and it was there job to bring the bait and consumables. My 10 year old and I popped over the hill and got everything sorted ready for the other two to arrive.

We left the marina and dropped the hammer, 10 mins later we were at spot X, dropped the anchor in 8m water, threw the burley pot over and we were into it, I was telling my mates that it hasn't been that good of summer fishing wise when my lad went ballistic and started to crank his reel like there was no tomorrow, I ran out to the back deck to slow him down while one of my mates got the net. His elcheapo rod was bent over 180degs and the first thing I thought was he was caught on the burley pot, he was yelling that it was a fish and sure enough he landed this beauty.

It's off to the local Thai restaurant tomorrow night where they will charge us $10 to cook whole either sweet and sour or chilli style, she measured 50cm. He caught another one soon after a tad smaller but a goodie.

Yes he is a tinny little bugger, he has caught plenty good size fish over the years, generally likes the deeper water.
I was thinking of heading out this weekend but he has soccer practice on Saturday and School picnic on Sunday so thats stuffed my weekend.
