Te Kaha or Waihau Bay
I'm thinking about taking the family to either Waihau Bay of Te Kaha in the July school holidays. Will be taking a 5 metre boat. Has anyone been to either of these places? Can you give me any info on fishing, accommodat or boat launching? Cheers in advance.

I don’t know a lot about Te Kaha, but I have been to Waihau Bay many times, good boat ramp and good fishing in close, there is a good pub with good feeds and lots of good local information.
I love Waihau Bay, it’s the place where I plan on catching a marlin from my V163 Haines Hunter, I am sure you will have a great time there,

Cheers for that. Feel free to pm me if you have any possies you want to point me in the direction of.

I have spent a fair bit of time there over the years but not recently.
Waihau is a really cool spot and there is some great kingie fishing around Cape Runaway and good snapper inside the cape.
There was some issue with the locals over launching boats at Te Kaha many years ago but I have no idea what the situation is now.
Waikawa point is also an excellent spot for kings.

Take a couple of jerry cans of fuel and go from Whakatane. Safe bar, safe parking and real friendly people. Really its only a hop step n a jump to Te Kaha and Waihau bay is just around the corner.

Waihau ramp while the best in that area will be crowded beyond belief in July as its blue fin tuna season

Weve booked a place there in the second week of the holidays. Hopefully be able to get a bit of fishing in.
