yum:cool:
Keep fishing. Smoke a few.
Indeed it was yum, I could have smoked it but that meant waiting another 24 hours while it was being cured for the smoker then another 24 hours for it to be made into smoked fish pie and we were hanging for a feed of fresh fish so baked it was and that is how we are going to do it again with the next kahawai.
Just gotta catch more fish...

Yup also just need to hit a really good bite time not a poor one lol. Might be heading east coast for an evening fish this coming weekend when there will be a really good bite time so hopefully catch a bit more than one fish.
caught a few snaps and golden snapper behind Motiti isl on Saturday, also had a very productive scolly dive as well
Aotea harbour, I have made the trip up from New Plymouth, a couple times now, nice spot, great sunsets,
well done, enjoy your Kawahai.
Good work Hunter ,fresh Kahawai that size is great baked or pan fried.
No weed last Thursday at Spot-x ,same result as you.
Up the coast might be a go next weekend.
How do you know there will be a really good bite time?
Actually @Chris I am thinking seriously about heading to Whiritoa this saturday night mate.
@veitnamcam this is how I know if there is a good bite time :P
Bite Times - The Fishing Website
Its wrong.... I was home with quota for two before their bit time on Saturday.... my best ever fishing days have been on the "worst" days on the Moari fishing calendar.
Nobody can forecast the fishing mate dont buy into any of that crap, generally speaking in my experience (which granted is not shore fishing) big tides are better and change of light at both ends of the day is best just like hunting.
The all time best way to catch fish is to go fishing.
I'm gonna stick to my Tuhoe Fishing calendar been using for 30 odd yr, can rubbish the Maori fishing calendar all you want .
Spent too many hours & too many trips coming home with SFA prior to getting the calendar.I'm not going to turn away from it now.
Combined with the old traditional Moari way of working the tides / bite time .
It has been working for me since I tried it last weekend been two years going fishing and coming home empty handed and tired of it, hell I even hooked a fish on a soft bait last weekend fishing from the beach and the guys from fish city tried to laugh me out of the shop when I said what I was going to do.
Ok believe what you want to believe.
To fish or not to fish. That is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind to believe in Bill Hohepa or to just say fuck it and sling your bait in the water and by so doing catch the fish therein.
